Pretty poor wireless router

Pros: I got this free somehow form NewEgg. After using it, I would want to pay more than $20.
It is based off of DD-WRT which is cool I guess.
It has pretty good control of various router like things such as MAC address filter, DHCP, port forwarding, etc.

Cons: It has to reboot for everything which takes at least 60+ seconds per reboot.
It cannot handle the load of two computers and two smart phones... let alone if anyone else comes over. I determined this after the connection would continually drop for about 5 minutes on and off. I started playing around disconnecting devices until the connection would no longer drop.

Other Thoughts: I got this free and used it for a small window of time when the Engenius unit died and I found what I wanted to be the next setup. It was a terrible time.

I now got a SoHo router (Ubiquiti Edge X) which is entirely overkill, but very nice. I also got a Ubiquiti Wireless AP. They tend to be pricey, but have some nice features and appear so far to be much better build/made. I got the router and access point on another website which was slightly cheaper and has 2-day "Prime" delivery..

Security Vulnerabilities

Pros: Router was free with a cable modem I bought from Newegg back in Dec., 2013. I put this router in my parents' house to have a wireless network when visiting. Had no problems with the limited time I used it.

Cons: My folks received a call from Optimum (their cable provider) on April 8, 2015, they stated that "certain D-Link routers" had security vulnerabilities that had been exploited by hackers to run numerous denial of service attacks that had brought down several networks. Optimum had received several complaints of the attacks, log files confirmed my parents' IP address was one that attacks had originated from. So now I will have to get a new router.

Other Thoughts: If you get one of these for free just sell it or give it away (my first thought).

Was bundled

Pros: With DD-WRT on it, setup as Wi-Fi extender for my deck & backyard area. Extends the main signal through a solid brick wall. Have not had any issues with reboots or signal drops once I got it to work the way I wanted. Wasn't easy, that's for sure.

Cons: This has to be the most annoying impossible device to get to work right. All these comments about unstable - SPOT ON! This so-called DD-WRT support is a joke, memory size is so limited that you really can't have a full dd-wrt image on it (at least as of summer 2014). I've dealt with trendnets, d-links, cisco, linksys and some nonames. Had some pretty impressive DD-WRT setups which stand as pillars up to day.

Let me tell you, I lost count of how many times I had to re-flash this router and start over with clean settings. Speaking off some distant memories here but I must've spent at least 2 full days total experimenting with it, configuring and re-flashing over and over and over again, until somehow at the end it finally bridged with and extended my home network and has not dropped any connections since.

Other Thoughts: Keep in mind, I only power it on when I need to extend my Wi-Fi and the speeds through the extender are indeed slower compared to directly connecting to my main router, but that was to be expected. I get a much more stable (although slightly slower) connection outside than I did before setting up this as extender. I cannot speak for the factory firmware or other configurations, because I went straight to DD-WRT as extender setup as soon as the plastic was off. I can confirm, it is a hell harder to turn this into a stable component of your home network. And even then I would never consider it reliable enough for anything other than occasional power on to patch you and your guests up when there is no other option to get wifi.

It works great if you only need every other second

Pros: • 4-ports
• Works sometimes
• Supports WPA2 Personal and Enterprise
• Port Forwarding and Virtual Server

Cons: • Loses connection about 3 times per minute for about 5 seconds
• Impossible to game with because of connection glitches
• Router Firmware could look a lot better
• Description says it supports DD-WRT but is actually a nightmare in practice

Other Thoughts: If you're looking at this router, chances are you'll want to find something else.

Most of the cons are small issues, but the dropped connections are something that plagues me on a daily basis. I'm so sick of seeing the stupid dinosaur and "Cannot Connect".

Yes, I've updated the router's firmware.

Yes, I tried using DD-WRT and had minimal success.

No setting I've found on this thing eliminates my connection issues, and I know that it's not an issue with my service or other hardware because I only get the issue while using this device. The issues appear in both wireless and wired connections.

Seriously, go with something a little nicer like a Linksys or ASUS.

Not worth it, even if free

Pros: After a restart, D-link router does provide WiFi and Ethernet connection to the Internet.

DIR-615 was easy to install and mange.

Cons: DIR-615 WiFi connection to the Internet is not persistent: The WiFi signal stops and router does not always re-establish or provide connection to devices online.

Ethernet port do not always provide access to the Internet. Intermittently Ethernet port drops the connection to the Internet.

Other Thoughts: My original DIR-615 would intermittently loose WiFi and Ethernet connection, D-Link provided a replacement with Firmware version I1, the replacement was worst than the original. D-Link was good about proving a replacement.

I've lost a lot of time, on daily basis it has to be restarted so that access to the Internet can be attained.

D-Link support has done all they can. The router remains unreliable (both WiFi and Ethernet) their recommended configuration has not resolved or improved the problem.

Good Customer Support

Pros: Customer Support

Cons: Little Troublesome Getting it up and running

Other Thoughts: I was trying to install this router and ran into a few problems. First was that it required using the cd and the internet. I was trying to set it up at a location that didn't have the internet yet and couldn't do so. Second frustration was that there was an IP Conflict on my network evidently. The good news is, DLink had a 24 7 customer support number where Grace (Badge ID #AR-004226) did a great job assisting me. Their support alone made me give this review an extra star.

DOA

Pros: None

Cons: DOA got it free just tried to use it. Doesn't even recognize a network cable plugged into it. Cant pass setup as there is no connection to it.

Other Thoughts: If it wasn't free I would be more upset.

D-Link should be ashamed

Pros: Like many other people here, I got it for free. Though, I feel like I was robbed, given how much time I spent trying to make it at least somehow working.

Cons: Like for many others, it doesn’t work for me. Both DLINK and DD-WRT firmware do this: router resets every few minutes (all LEDs are on, all connections lost).

Other Thoughts: No wonder it's free. D-Link should be ashamed of such garbage.
