Pros: Bang for the bucks; you can't beat it. I purchased this from newegg to replace my Eee (keyboard died). I loved the Eee but the keyboard was 92% normal & felt cramped. Be sure that you are buying a unit with the dual core SU2300 processor. It makes all the difference in the world. Dolby reproduction is good but keep in mind that this machine is designed with long battery life in mind. A good headset is recommended for the full Dolby experience. The battery life is very good and ranges from 8 + hours light duty to 4 - 5 hours watching videos. Windows 7 Home Premium runs great on this netbook (that was a very pleasant surprise). The sleep & hibernate functions perform perfectly. Quiet. Almost no heat except under full video load and then still acceptable on a bare chest. Touch-pad is easy to use and the two finger capabilities work great. Check out Anandtech.com for an in-depth review of the very similar, but more expensive, Acer AS1810.
Cons: LCD display has a somewhat limited viewing angle but acceptable, especially considering the price. Doesn't come with a carrying case so be sure and order the Rosewill 13.3" Vertical Messenger for Netbooks or similar product from newegg. The Rosewill comes with a removable netbook carrying compartment.
Other Thoughts: Windows experience index is 3.2 gaming graphics, 3.8 processor, 4.8 memory, 3.3 desktop/Aero & 5.4 primary hard disk. I watch Hulu & ESPN college basketball through the wireless connection and the quality is very good. I already own a USB powered external Samsung DVD (also from newegg & highly recommended) that I can use when needed for movies, which isn't very often. I prefer to rip the movies into MPEG4 format using my desktop and transferring them to the netbook's hard drive. After owning this Acer I rarely use my Dell Inspiron laptop anymore (only when a larger desktop is needed). This industry product line may well do serious damage to notebook & laptops market segments. Laptops are too hot & heavy and serious gamers are going to usually use a desktop. I have no doubts that gamer friendly versions will be coming out in the future using some version of the GeForce G210M or equivalent GPU. nVidia may force Intel to come out with a ULV netbook version of the i5 core processor.
Pros: I wish I had ordered my Acer 1410 earlier - it is a much better system than the typical netbook. The LCD is bright with very good contrast. The SU2300 processor allows the 1410 to literally run circles around the Atom N280 in my HP Mini 311. The build quality is solid - even the lid is strongly built for such a small system. And, last but not least, the Intel 4500 graphics lets me play good old Ghost Recon - the original from 2001 - although it looks a little rough around the edges since there is no anti-aliasing.
Cons: The charger, although it small and easy to tote around, can barely charge the 1410 if it is running. I use a wireless mouse but the touchpad is too small for practical use. If you want to swap the hard drive, the connection between the system and the drive is a ZIF connector so be careful.
Other Thoughts: I am very happy with my 1410 and I highly recommend it as a superb alternative to a netbook. Battery life, after owning this for a month, has settled down to just shy of 5 hours which is not nearly as long as most netbooks. That said, the five hours are good productive hours instead of hours spent watching an hourglass spinning!
Pros: gorgeous display, excellent speed on the dual core processors, 2 gb is easily upgraded to 4 (makes this a smokin' fast psuedo-laptop) lightweight, windows 7 premium, hdmi out, overall fantastic machine.
Cons: none so far.
Pros:
Got this for myself over the holiday and am very happy with my choice. I have had my eye on netbooks as they grew in popularity. The 8 inch screens were just to small. Man am I glad I waited.
- 2 Gig RAM
- Cruises the web with ease
- Large screen for a netbook
- Nice full keyboard, very important (its the reason why I picked ACER over ASUS, I hate half sized shift keys.)
- The multi gesture key pad works great. Use it constantly.
- Windows 7
- I've been getting solid 4-5 hours battery life from single charge
-HDMI out is worth the extra bit of loot
-Its a rock, I have no idea where other reviewers are getting the impression of cheap construction.
Cons: Typical moderate Windows bloatware as to be expected. Just remove it and your good.
Other Thoughts:
Bought this with the full intention of scrapping windows and installing some linux netbook distro, but I gotta admit, Microsoft did a great job with windows 7. Crazy right? Thought it would be some rehashed Vista disaster but it actually works real well on the 11.6" screen. With the added benefit of multi-gesture touch support, I just couldn't get rid of it.
As far as boot time, I never turn it off. Just close it up and let her sleep for a quick boot.
It's a higher priced netbook but worth the $ for extra real estate on screen and keys. Stones throw away from being a notebook.
Pros: Features you simply don't find at this size/price point: ULV Core 2 Duo based CPU, 2 GB RAM, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, GMA4500 though anemic is better than GMA950 in some netbooks. I like the finish of the palm rest and like the multitouch pad. Thin and light with good battery life.
Cons: The keyboard is too flat and slick and is very easy to lose your place on compared to almost every other keyboard I have used. Also feels spongy and flexes too much and looks like it would be quite a dirt trap. Can't stand the placement of the backspace key, I keep hitting plus/equals. Does ANYONE like glossy screens, bezels and lids? They just look gaudy and attract fingerprints like mad. My unit had some serious QA issues: bluescreened on me twice randomly, wouldn't wake up from sleep, weird chassis warp that would only allow 3 of the rubber feet on the desk at a time so the unit would wobble while typing, fan started buzzing abnormally. All of these things popped up in the very first day of ownership which led me to return this unit to the B&M store (not Newegg) that I bought it at.
Other Thoughts: I really wanted to like this computer due to the great price to performance to size that is close to what I am really looking for. I think if you get a solid unit and are not a hater of this style of keyboard like I am this would be a great laptop for the money. Will some manufacturer out there please pair this CPU with a good integrated GPU like the 9400m g? That pairing with a nice matte finish screen and casing in something like a 12 inch size for under 6 bills would be exactly what I, and probably many others are looking for.
Pros: Nice keyboard and reasonably fast for a Netbook. NewEgg is awesome with great service and delivery.
Cons: Tech support is the worst I've ever experienced. In my 20 years of using computers. THE WORST!!! Congratulations Anoop!! They support too many people at the same time and he was just not reading my posts to understand the issue and kept asking the same questions which only demonstrated his lack of understanding or review of my requests.
Other Thoughts:
First off, I have the Gateway EC1436u which is the sister version to this system. The Gateway was decommissioned from NewEgg but I had to respond somewhere and warn others of the horrific tech support that these people at Acer/Gateway provide.
The issue is that I needed the recovery disk of the Win7 Home Premium x64 that came installed on the system as I put in an SSD (a manufacturer replacement from an earlier purchase) and needed the CD as the system did not come with one. After an hour of support confusion, he first said its a Microsoft issue and I'd have to call Microsoft. Being an unacceptable response he later said we don't have recovery CD's for Win7, please recontact us in two weeks. THESE PEOPLE SUCK AT TECH SUPPORT. Buy a system from another company.
Pros: Light (3 lbs), Low Cost, Long Battery Life (4.5-6hrs depending), Very Acceptable Performance with dual core processor (fine for youtube, internet surfing, general computer use, no long hang ups). I owned an Acer Aspire One netbook with an Atom - there is no comparison. This is *well* worth the extra $100 - 150. Windows 7 works great (after crapware removal).
Cons: Would be nice to have bluetooth already installed, larger HD, more memory, etc, but for the price you can't really complain!
Other Thoughts: This is just about a perfect notebook for someone that also has a desktop. But it can handle much of what people use computers for these days. Windows 7 score is 3.2, due to the graphics. Memory and processor are not bad. The 13.3" model w/ DDR3 and a somewhat faster processor looks good too, but significantly more $, a bit more weight.

Pros: - zippy performance
- higher resolution screen. Better for web surfing
- great size
- long battery life when on.
Cons: - continues to discharge the batter 5-6% per day even when completely OFF!
- LCD display is glossy
- LCD has too tight of a vertical viewing angle. It's got a sweet spot, but deviate from that a little and the screen washes out.
Other Thoughts: It may just be the SU2300 equipped versions - don't know yet. Do know that ~ 6 of us that bought these in late Dec have a problem in that this laptop will discharge the batter 5-6% per day even when OFF. It's not the battery because if I pull it, it doesn't discharge when left out for days.
This past Sunday I charged it up 100% and left it until Sat, 6 days later. Powered it up and I was at 64% charge level.
Acer tech support has been unhelpful. I have the latest bios, wake on LAN is off, again it is definitely OFF, not sleeping or in standby.
Hopefully Acer will fix this issue.
