best laptop i ever owned

Pros: awesome screen, gtx 1070, very solid build, windows precision track pad, classy looks

Cons: not much, battery life i guess, and maybe a little heavy

Other Thoughts: this machine has been great so far, as mentioned screen is awesome and very fast (no blur). plays fortnite very smooth at epic settings. machine itself is very quick. boot ups seemed a little long but have been getting quicker. boots up about as fast as my desktop with an older intel ssd drive. build quality was better than i expected. fans are not as loud as some make them out to be, looks even better in person than in pictures. wasn't sure about the half camouflage keyboard but it looks good. Also, not mentioned in description but you also get call of duty black ops for free

BUYER BEWARE - no way to buy Asus extended warranty from newegg

Pros: Great notebook, but unable to extend the Asus warranty.

Cons: BUYER BEWARE

I tried to extend the Asus warranty by purchasing the extension package, but discovered that this must be purchased from the retailer, newegg. However, Newegg does not sell 1st party Asus warranties, only 3rd party services.

Seems Solid

Pros: - Easy to upgrade
- Comes with a 1 year accident protection warranty
- Nice quality display
- Mine has very little back-light bleed
- Good hardware
- Airflow seems solid
- The laptop feels very sturdy
- I generally enjoy typing on the keyboard

Cons: - Downloads TONS of greyware when you first connect it to the internet
- The camo design on the keyboard just doesn't look good imo
- The built in utilities for checking temperatures and performance of the CPU and GPU are needlessly showy and actually cause a noticeable load on the GPU which causes a decrease in performance. If you want to check internal temps while stress testing, use a different program.
- Doesn't have g-sync
- Arrow key placement feels a little strange and the keypad feels a bit too squeezed in. I've had same-size laptops that were able to pretty comfortably fit all this without compromising.
- Background CPU load can spike up to almost 20% with no widows or other tasks open. I imagine this is from all the greyware.

Other Thoughts: If you can find this laptop on sale like I did, then I would definitely recommend it. Even at its normal price it's not bad, but it makes it a bit of a tougher decision. At the price I bought it and at the time it would have only been a little bit cheaper to build my own desktop, so it was definitely worth it for me, as I will be traveling a lot with it.

The laptop generally seems very solid, the complaints are rather minor, as you can uninstall the greyware, and the keyboard feels solid, the placement of the keys just is a little strange, but it's probably going to be a quick adjustment. The ease of upgrading is also really nice. I was able to install a 2.5" SSD in a matter of minutes.

Great Value for a Fast Laptop

Pros: - Runs smoother than my desktop
- Plenty of power/Very fast
- NVMe drive
- Doesn't get overwhelmingly hot
- Great screen
- Again, great screen (buttery smooth IPS with vivid color)
- Comfortable to use
- Thin and light

Cons: - Battery life. I am not sure why they electrically only connected the 1070 to the output instead of the (CPU provided) Intel graphics. Being able to power down the 1070 would be ideal for productivity tasks.
- Webcam at the bottom of screen
- Large bottom bezel

Other Thoughts: I was hesitant to purchase this after reading some of the other reviews, but it seems they have things together now. My screen is phenomenal (other's have complained about backlight bleed, this one is perfect). I have experienced a little bit of the microstutter people have mentioned, but it only happened after a graphics card driver update and only happens occasionally. There is an issue with the audio driver where it can conflict with Fast Start and cause Copy/Paste to be broken. This was very frustrating to figure out, but it is not ASUS's fault. I thought the bezel would bother me more than it does. I forget about it despite it being very large since the screen is positioned well and is very engaging.

tldr; this thing rocks. We are currently using it as a desktop replacement since my Wife's gaming computer died, and it runs better than the machine it replaced.

RMA'd instantly for arriving with defect.

Pros: My laptop arrived fairly quickly after I ordered it. However when powered the laptop on I instantly noticed a stuck-pixel that was bright white and a lot of IPS backlight bleed.

I have 3 monitors, two of which are IPS. I know what a normal amount of bleed is. This was not normal. Anything remotely near 3 of the 4 corners of the screen was tinted a dark brown. My black taskbar was actually dark brown. It was hands-down the worst bleed I've ever seen. The tint would actually shimmer with slight movements of the device. Top it off with the bright stuck pixel - there is little doubt that nobody checked the device before it rolled off the factory.

Within an hour of opening it, I shipped it to an RMA facility after contacting ASUS Support. I got it back fairly quickly, about a week and a half after shipping it and it is now perfect.

The replaced screen now has zero appreciable bleed and no pixel defects. The RMA team did an exceptional job. I'd like to give more eggs, but I can't reconcile that against the fact that I was sold a devices with one of its most standout features being defective.

Cons: If at any point it had been powered on after final assembly you'd have seen the terrible state of the screen. QA improvement?

Other Thoughts: Still would recommend because of great RMA process and finished result. For the price (1589USD) it's one of the best laptops. 8750h + full 1070 + 144hz IPS. It's a fearsome combo. If they did a bigger battery instead of the 2.5" drive and did away with the camo it would be perfect in my opinion. I might spray paint the camo away at some point..

Solid performance and good build quality but lacks Nvidia Optimus (switch to Intel Graphics for better battery life)

Pros: - Full Gtx 1070 is working like it should -- great gaming performance.
- Build quality is high. Think there's plenty of plastic construction but feels very solid and good
- Good keyboard and trackpad, although the positioning of arrows key might take a little getting used to. Not a big issue, though.
- Cooling is okay. Temperature can rise to 80 C but considering it has a 1070, it's more or less expected.

Cons: - The only glaring problem I have with the laptop is its battery. It's got a decently sized battery considering it's packed with dual RAM slots and a 2.5" drive bay so it won't have room for a huge battery, but what drains the battery fairly fast (1.5 hours or so if watching YouTube even in battery saver mode) is the inability to switch to Intel Graphics. It uses Nvidia 1070 at ALL times. But having said that, battery life is okay if you just browse internet and/or do some light productivity stuff.

Other Thoughts: - I was a bit hesitant about the camo design, thick chassis, and clear WASD on this Scar II, but I think in person the design of Scar II is much better than anticipated. The camo design actually isn't as obnoxious as I thought, and the chassis (though 1-inch thick) doesn't bother me much either.
- I also own Asus Zephyrus M (with GTX 1060 instead of 1070), and I think Zephyrus with 1060 at least runs more quietly than Scar II but considering Zephyrus with 1070 costs like 200 dollars more than this Scar II, I think this is a pretty compelling purchase. I mean, the performance and hardware is there, if you don't mind having a slightly thicker chassis and a bit louder noise both idling and gaming.

overheating , micro stutters in game, refirb sold as new

Pros: very nice layout, and case. Except for cooling design

Cons: - any new AAA title will max out temps and create thermal throttling which in turn makes your games micro-stutter,e ven though runs at high framerate, you get non-stop stuttering.
-ips screen has HORRIBLE pinched corner with green and white light bleeding throguh, worst ive ever seen personally.-
-the aura lighting software is extremely annoying and no matter what you set custom games like CoD 4 will flash red and off, and extremely annoying.
- bottom line the laptop does not work for games which is what it's designed for, due to micro-stutters. im returning it and never messing with laptops again.

Other Thoughts: - laptop arrived in a sealed new box, but the laptop itself had fingerprints all over it, even the logo on the top was covered in fingerprint smudges, you couldn't have missed it with any sort of QC. it's an obvious refirb product sold as new. This is the 2nd defective laptop in a row from Newegg, I'm completely done with them.
