I wish I could give 0 stars

Pros: Low cost

Cons: I have purchased 4 of these for my company, all loaded with Windows 2012 Essentials and located to different geographic locations. I added hardrives, memory to 16GB. ALL of these machines shut down randomly causing a lot of trouble for my users in these locations. I have searched land and earth for a solution, updated drivers, firmware and anything else and the situation is the same. A WASTE of time. I would never buy any of these again even if it is for 10 bucks. Garbage.

Minimalist Server

Pros: It boots up and does what I need it to.
Display Ports
Com Port
Plenty of Onboard USB 3.0
2 USB 2.0
Plenty of extra sata power connectors internally

Cons: 14 pin motherboard connector.
Not a good wattage for the PSU if one was to implement components not included with it, EG another hard drive, a second cd drive, physical raid array etc...
No molex connectors.
Sata power pulled from mother board.
Proprietary connector and module for front usb 3.0 & improperly placed causing cables to pass right in front of vent fan.
Front USB 3.0 internal connector cables are not long enough to do any sort of cable management....... (this kind of annoys me... a lot....)
Low Factory Memory.
Low Factory Hard Drive Space.
Only one intake fan.

Other Thoughts: I replaced the PSU with a 750W power supply,
Added more memory
A second HDD
Added a PCI fan.
System runs nicely and keeps good airflow.

They should really make their FSUSB Connector cables longer and should switch from a 14pin to a 24pin motherboard connector, stop trying to keep everything proprietary Lenovo...

Nice Server

Pros: Fast shipping, This is a nice little server for a small office.

Cons: Had to go online to find some of the drivers for the motherboard. Doesn't come with any extra SATA connectors and the quick start disk sucks.

Other Thoughts: I set this up Windows Server 2012 R2. the install was a breeze, once I gave up on Lenovo's quick install disk. I also added 4 more gigs of ram and a 2tb hard drive.
Been running great so far.

Just what the doctor ordered

Pros: This server rocks. Totally solid. Zero issues with compatibility or performance.

Cons: The hard drive is a little noisy when it is 'thinking'.

Other Thoughts: I can't believe this machine is so inexpensive. This thing rocks.

Dennis is Wrong

Pros: -CAN be used for gaming

-Runs Quiet

-Good parts for a budget workstation

Cons: Front USB header connection to motherboard is proprietary and placed in a bad location, I had to remove it.

No sleep mode, I am sure someone who is using it as a server would be proficient enough to turn it off.

Can't mount 2.5" drives.

Should include replacement cover in order to remove the DVD drive.

Other Thoughts: CPU [Intel Xeon E3-1225V3 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor] $138
Motherboard [Lenovo TS140 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard] $30
Memory [Crucial 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 ECC Memory] $48
Storage [Crucial BX100 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive] $48
Storage [Western Digital RE4 500GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive] $33
Video Card [Asus GeForce GTX 960 2GB STRIX OC Video Card] $110
Case [Lenovo TS140 Micro ATX Mid Tower Case] $15
Power Supply [Corsair Builder 430W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply] $17

Used a $3 adapter cable to attach the PSU to the motherboard.
-Boots in 10 seconds
-Runs most games on high at 1080p60
-Uses under 50W at idle and around 200W under load

Great Small Business Server

Pros: Server-class processor E3-1225v3 and mainboard server-class chipset C226, with the full Intel AMT 9.0 (VPro) support, ECC memory, and built in TPM. Great price as I could not build a comparable E3-12xxV3 Haswell based system with a server mainboard for under $400, because this processor alone cost over $200. No extra mounting HW needed for up to four 3.5" HDD. Six USB 3.0.

Cons: Many roles will need slightly more memory and HDD, but that's not expensive if using third-party. I found NewEgg Item#: N82E16820242042 was an exact match for original OEM supplied 4GB ECC UDIMM module (identical Hynix part number, 1Rx8, ECC Unbuffered 1.35V, DDR3L-1600 CL11-11-11). Third and fourth HDDs are tougher to access/install, which is tradeoff for case being only 14.5" tall. Only one GigEth (Intel) port, so need to add Ethernet expansion card if using for router/firewall role. Couldn't find any BIOS support for SATA/HDD passwords, but not common to use with server role.

Other Thoughts: Best details on this server are found in the "TS140 Platform Specifications and Overview", https://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkCentre/TS140_productspecifications.pdf
Very quiet in default BIOS thermal setting - includes front fan, rear fan, and two small HDD tray fans, plus CPU and PS fans.

Great for workstations

Pros: Inexpensive systems that are easily upgradable. Super quiet. Build quality is very good. I was quite surprised at how good these machines are for the money.

Cons: Wish the power supply connector was standard, but that is easy enough to get around if ever needed.

Other Thoughts: After adding some RAM and replacing the drive with an SSD, we're using these as workstations at our business continuity site (which gets used every quarter). The E3-1225 Xeon is getting dated, but it works fine for what we're using them for.

Nice quiet server box

Pros: Price: Good deal for a case, PS, Xeon CPU and mobo plus the 4GB of ECC ram.
Quiet: Although it comes with multiple fans, they are very quiet during normal operation. HDs also have screwless soft plastic sleds that keep noise down and install easily.
RAID: Supports Intel RST. I was able to migrate an existing RAID 1 array (mirror) to this server by just setting the BIOS SATA to RAID and plugging them in.
Current I/O: USB 3.0 and SATA 3 (6 Gbps)
Compatible: Runs Windows 8.1 just fine, expanded RAM to 16GB (4 slots of 4GB) at auction prices, ready for VM work.
Support: BIOS update available at Lenovo worked flawlessly

Cons: BIOS is not setup for gamers (no OC...), onboard video shares RAM, need to add RAM.
Limited Expansion: Only 3 HD slots (I set mine up with 120GB boot SSD, pair of WD Black drives for RAID 1), 4 SATA (1 used by CD/DVD ROM which is a laptop style drive).
To upgrade PSU, requires 20/24 pin to 14 pin adapter (available elsewhere)

Other Thoughts: I do not play video games on this machine, and it is not intended for that purpose. I hate the 1U servers because the tiny high speed fans sound like squirrels fighting.
