Awesome little machine!!!

Pros: Upgrade from an old tired Dell T105 server that ran WHS 2003, now running WHS 2008. Found the 2.5" bay added a Crucial SSD as boot drive and have 2T built-in for data/backup storage. Stayed w/original 8G ram but will probably upgrade in future. Thing flat out FLY'S as a server. Spec wise, this would do for an entry-mid level gaming rig.

Cons: None so far, wish I had thought to buy an extra or 2 as you just can't find a deal like this around (even approaching BLACK FRIDAY)

Other Thoughts: Please know what you are buying upfront. Do your home work and do a little research. So for all you complainer's out there that feel deprived, SHAME ON YOU!!!! This is a quality built entry level machine with albeit limited upgrade capabilities. Memory can be upgraded, dedicated graphics can be added, 2.5" bay for SSD can be added.
No an additional 3.5" HD can't be added, a second CD/DVD drive can't be added. But for less than $335 it was a MASSIVE steal!!!!!!

Great Budget Builds

Pros: I've been passively looking for a computer to use as a home server for about a year. When I saw this deal, I couldn't resist. The parts included cost about $480, even on good Newegg deals. I bought this for under $330, and it was an absolute steal. The A8 7600 is a very capable processor, and actually runs most modern games on medium without a discrete card, if you're into that sort of thing. It almost worked out of the box(I'll get to that in the cons), and looks brand new. Comes with a WiFi card, DVD drive, A78 chipset micro AtX mobo, Samsung cl 11 1600MHZ RAM, and a non modular but still space saving PSU due to thin cables. Cable management is great for a refurb, and it runs quiet, minus when the drive spins up. Primarily, I wrote this review to combat some people that don't have any idea what they are talking about, and are just regurgitating stuff they read on the internet. If you don't believe me, look the benchmarks up yourself.
Firstly, the Wi-Fi card included is worth $15, maybe. It works fine for me, but even if it doesn't work, there's empty pcie x1 slots to work with and a gigabit Ethernet port. It shouldn't make or break a $330 purchase.
Secondly, yes, there is only one 3.5" bay. Yes, this is a shortcoming and a design flaw. However, I own another HP desktop with the same form factor and found out extra bays are missing because they took out a hard drive cage to give the case better airflow. You can buy these cages online, or you can change cases or just be content with 2TB of storage. It is plenty for the average user.
Thirdly, and probably the most infuriating, is the two star reviews concerning the RAM. There is a 4% theoretical increase in "speed" from 2x4GB in dual channel vs 1x8GB in single channel. THEORETICAL. In reality, for gamers, server users, and home office owners, this difference means NOTHING. Be happy that you have 3 empty slots to work with and can adjust the RAM to be up to 32GB in dual channel.
Lastly, there are few, if any, problems with Windows 8.1. Mostly the problem is with Windows 7 fanboys not liking change. If you wish to downgrade to 7, wipe the drive and BOOM! Piece of cake if you have a disc or bootable usb.

Cons: OK, there were a few things I didn't like with this refurb, but nothing that would dissuade me from buying again. They are as follows:
It would be nice if it came with the cage for the hard drives and you could optionally remove it like I have with all my other HP machines. However, 2TB is plenty for me, I like the airflow, and there are plenty of USB 3.0 ports to use external drives at almost SATA speeds.
OK, now the important con. when I received this and got it all plugged in, the lights turned on and the fans spun up, but it wouldn't boot. I unseated the RAM and resecured it, checked pin connectors on the motherboard, tested other video cables, nothing helped. Finally, I unscrewed the cpu cooler and almost died laughing at what I found. The processor was physically STUCK to the cooler due to an excess of thermal paste applied, and it had apparently created suction and unseated the cpu. I separated them, removed some paste, and it's been working fine ever since. It was a sigh of relief, as I was running out of ideas for DIY diagnostics. This could be a problem if this was sent to someone with less knowledge or even patience than me, and would result in a costly and annoying return process.

Good Value Some Limitations

Pros: Great "bang for the buck" system. A8 is pretty fast. Integrated R7 video is pretty fast for light gaming. Works well with Windows 10 technical preview. Does have a 2.5" bay for an SSD.

Cons: Build quality isn't great. Limited expandability. Should have 2 sticks of RAM. A lot of work to "downgrade" to Windows 7.

Other Thoughts: I'm giving it five stars to compensate for some two star reviews, if not for those I'd probably give it four. It's a good machine for what it is, a prebuilt value system from a major manufacturer. It _should_ have two sticks of RAM but that's not a deal breaker for me, I just ordered a matching stick. I wanted 16GB anyway. I added in an MSI R7 250 1GDDR5 which works fine with secure boot on and legacy off only _after_ upgrading the VBIOS from MSI. I added a Samsung EVO 850 SSD to the 2.5" bay and it flies. Wireless in mine works well. It's surprising that several tech level five people (*rolls eyes*) bought this with apparently no idea what they were buying.

Don't bother

Pros: Motherboard has 4 memory slots (DDR3). Makes it easy to get to the 32 gig max memory with 4 8-gig dimms.

Cons: Tower case has just 1 3.5" drive bay, a design flaw. The motherboard has 6 SATA ports. This is plain bad design.

Windows 8.1 is loaded with the usual bloatware.

Other Thoughts: This would be OK with at least 2 additional 3.5" drive bays.

I will never buy a pre-built PC again and certainly not an HP-branded product.

Excellent Workstation

Pros: - Very quiet. You hardly know it is turned on.
- Small footprint
- Fast boot
- Wireless and Gigabit Ethernet
-64 bit OS
- 2 TB hard drive (drive spins down to save energy when not in use)
- Fast in general
- Qualifies for the free upgrade to Windows 10 when released later this year.
- Will run Linux if you prefer

Cons: - Win 8.1 (on a positive note, it qualifies for the free upgrade to Windows 10 when released later this year)
- keyboard and mouse are kinda cheap feeling, but work fine. I replaced them with a wireless set.
- No serial port to plug in my UPS monitoring cable. (not that big a deal as I can do without, add a serial card, or upgrade my UPS).

Other Thoughts: Great value on a speedy and quick PC. This PC works as well for any student, family, or even an office. Obviously if you are running CAD or large desktop publishing files you are going to understandably spend more. But for most folks, this PC will more than suffice. PLEASE NOTE that no restore disk or Windows COA sticker comes with the unit. After working with New Egg, Microsoft, and HP, the official word is the PC has it's windows serial number permanently set in the BIOS. You have to create your own restore disks via a windows utility (Very easy). The software is pre-installed and legit, its just how OEM manufactures are now deploying Windows. This protects Microsoft I assume as it assures the software remains with that PC. Not really a big deal.

Like New

Pros: This came in looking like new! Still had the plastic protector on, I could not be better pleased with this computer. It is fast and the 8g of memory is an added bonus. It has 4 slots so it can be expanded to 32g. The 2 usb3 ports in front and the 2 usb3 ports in back with the additional usb2 ports is just gravy.

Cons: The only drawback is it would be difficult to add an additional hard drive inside the case. But with 2TB HDD it has a lot of room for files, so that's a minor con.

Only a 90 day warranty, but you can buy an extended warranty if you like. But in my experience electronics usually break down in the first 90 days and if they don't they usually last pretty well.

Very Satisfied

Pros: You can't beat the price of this unit. The A8 processor is fast. Has sufficient memory. Over all a very good deal.

Cons: I wish it had an A10 processor and more memory, but it can be upgraded in both area.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend this unit to anyone
