LG 49UH6030 49-Inch 4K UHD Smart TV Review

Pros: -INCREDIBLY vibrant colors, and strong darks
-IPS Technology makes all viewing angles as clean as center-on view
-Smart OS is intuitive and easy to use; all apps launch with minimal loading time
-TOSLINK digital audio out is easily controlled
-Video is the same brightness/clarity in all ambient lighting

Cons: -The 4K upscaling technology isn't the best. When viewing 720P-delivered video up close (1-2ft from the panel) you can sometimes see... vertical dithering? It's easiest to describe it as looking at something through a multiple angled glass- think of looking at something through a raised glass panel at the seam from flat to angled glass. The object behind the glass is almost... maligned between the flat/angled glass (not vertically maligned, but horizontally). This is most evident in slow-panning close-ups.
Honestly it's not a big deal. This video artifacting is only one pixel wide and maybe 5 pixels tall so you WON'T notice it at standard viewing distances.
If you watch 1080P/1440P delivered content, the upscaler works fine. This is only evident with 720P and below.

It is quite evident the upscaler produces this, because these artifacts aren't evident when viewing content 1080P and above.

Other Thoughts: -I disabled the 120Hz setting after a few days. It's a nice touch, but my family didn't like it, and I especially didn't like it when watching movies (why take away the deliberately filmed 24FPS effect?).
-Not the best for dark scenes. Blacks aren't the "abstinence of light" black like a plasma TV, but that is a different video technology. Overall, the blacks are really good. This is why I'm commenting on the blacks in the "Other" category and not "Cons."

Use the Smart OS Youtube application to search for 4K content. Even with Youtube's 4K video compression, you'll be blown away!

I never had any issue out of the box with color warmth/coolness; no adjustments were necessary for me and all colors/skin tones were spot on.
I received a fully working, undamaged TV with my first shipment. If anyone receives a damaged unit, Newegg RMA will handle it with no questions. Don't give a bad/scathing review on this product if the shipping company damaged it!

I waited for two months so I could give an accurate and unbiased review of the TV when all functions were tested.

The upscaler dithering I believe, is a "You get what you pay for" effects. I got it on sale November 2016 for $300. You can't expect the world out of a competitively priced TV. Like I noted above, you can't notice it at standard viewing distances so it isn't a big deal.
I'm giving this TV 4 eggs out of 5, because of the upscaling quirk detailed above. It would have been a 5 otherwise.

Green Tint? No Problem!

Pros: This TV is great, especially for the price, I got it on sale for $399! UNBELIEVABLE! It took 4 tries (3 sets got damaged in shipping) but the 4th time was the charm.

A lot of people seem to be having trouble with the colors on this set. I must admit I did also. Some shows were fine but most of the shows had this greenish tint that just would NOT go away no matter how much you tried to adjust the settings, and you couldn't get skin tones just right. If you sent yours back to get a refund or a different brand or model I wouldn't blame you, it was disheartening not to be able to adjust the picture to get it "just right".

I did a little searching for this "Green Tint" problem and came across someone who had a similar issue, his advice didn't help me directly but it did point me in the right direction. As you already know no matter which "Picture Mode" you choose you just CAN NOT get things to look right. Well, first off forget all the other picture modes, just go right into one of the "Expert" picture modes and make all of your settings in there. To start you off on the right foot, In "Expert Mode" go to "Expert Controls>Color management System>", choose "Green" and then choose "Tint" and dial that back to a minus 5. You'll see a big difference right there. From there you can play around with all the other settings to get things to your liking.

Hope this helps you. ;-)

Cons: No Bluetooth.

Do not buy this TV; there is a good chance it will arrive broken!

Pros: I'm sure it would be a great TV if the manufacturer packed the TV in a box properly.

Cons: 2 / 2 arrived with completely shattered screens. Newegg just gave up and refunded it. The manufacturer (LG most likely) has ZERO clue on how to pack a TV into a box. Both times it appeared that the TV had taken some kind of side impact and shattered the screen.

Other Thoughts: If you can't find this TV in an actual store. Don't bother buying this model.

Defective Pixels on screen out of box, otherwise great value

Pros: Great value
Good software, brand

Cons: Currently going through the RMA process as my first unit had a vertical line of defective pixels that didn't work. Took me a minute to notice this and then you can't stop seeing it. I'll update this review based on how the next unit works after its delivered.

Other Thoughts: Edit 1/21/17:
Recieved replacement unit. There is still a very small (1/4") of defective pixels near the center of the screen but this time it is hardly noticeable. Deciding to keep it. Am pleased now with the user experience this tv offers at a great price.

Great

Pros: I love that you can setup a server on your PC and have .mkv files that just work. They will even display with subtitles if that is in the video file. Picture quality is very good.

Cons: Just wish it were a bit bigger =), Also wish it had bluetooth. Was able to connect a keyboard (with a track pad) but it has to use the keyboard USB dongle to work. Also, this does NOT work with the magic mouse. You have to go to the next higher model to get that to work.

LG 4K UHD!

Pros: great sound! amazing view. good for beginners to moderate gamers.

Cons: no aux input.

Other Thoughts: so yeah, this LG was the best purchase I made in 2016. I stayed up all day and night searching for a good affordable 4k tv. I bought this as a open box. only paid 299.99 309.00 all together. I have no problem with this TV thus far I bought received it on 12/28/2016. the quality is great the sound, and pic. I see bad reviews but I believe those people don't know how to take care of there items. because my cat knocked this my TV over and I turned it on and it working just fine. so don't let the reviews make you miss a great deal. ITS LG!!! These are not cheap!

Can't Find Anything Wrong With it... Actually I can after owning it for a while (Anything changed marked with *)

Pros: I was on the fence about a 4k TV for a while and saw this pop up on a pre-blackfriday sale. $399.99 are you kidding me LG?
$399.99 for a 4K UHD 60Hz HDR IPS TV
Yeah... I bought it

*Arrived a few days later, all 8.3 million pixels going strong and no dead ones. Picture is brilliant, thanks to the 8bit IPS panel with HDR support. List of goodies...

HDMI 2.0 Ports with HDCP 2.2

Viewing angles

Cons: 4K definitely has a quark with viewing distance. With my 50" 1080P TV, that had a viewing distance of 6-10ft. This is quite a bit less, at 4-6.3ft. You will still probably have much more vibrant colors and can notice a slight difference in quality compared to 1080p at 8FT with this TV, but you really need to sit closer to be blown away.

*I'm also sad to see this TV is an 8 bit panel, no 10 bit support.
*I also did extensive testing for input lag on this tv, and I don't have good news. Recording the screen at 120FPS, and recording the time from click-to-shoot on CS:GO, I have a result between 120-140ms of lag. My computer IPS screen has a rating of 5ms of response time, but with input lag, it's around 33ms.
I can definitely "feel" the input lag on this set and takes away from the gaming experience; however, I didn't get this tv to game on. I tried to because of the 4K hype and the possibility of couch gaming, but I just went back to my Nvidia Surround setup pretty quick.

Other Thoughts: With the introduction of HDMI 2.0 YOU NEED HDCP 2.2 FOR 4K @ 60Hz if you want to watch UHD Blu-Ray. This is some stupid handshake technology and every device in the chain MUST HAVE IT. I am still learning about all the **** that comes along with HDMI 2.0 so bare with me...

If you run at HDCP 1.4: 4K @30Hz
For soundbar or a receiver: Unless new, probably doesn't have HDMI 2.0 ports. Since every device in the chain needs HDMI 2.0 you won't get 4K @60Hz. Make sure you read up or contact your manufacturer to find out.
For sound, I recommend running all video sources to the TV, then one optical cable to your sound bar or receiver so you don't have to worry about HDMI 2.0.

Great Tv!

Pros: Great TV! just got this Tv for my PS4 Pro. It looks great! for the price you really cant beat this. price is great.

Cons: No cons right now!

Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a great tv for the ps4 pro this is your best bang for buck. Remember to update your tv when it comes because it will not work with ps4 pro out of the box. after the update it works for hdmi 2.2
