No more Biostar for me 07/15/2008
This review is from: BIOSTAR TA770 A2+ AM2+/AM2 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard
Pros:
Excellent board layout. Extra space between memory slots and CPU socket, and great motherboard/CPU power connector locations.
Cons:
BIOS did not properly detect my Phenom X3 8450; only detects 2 cores and thinks it is an X4. Biostar website stated that it is compatible with 8450. I assumed this is a problem with the BIOS that ships with the TA770 A2+. If you have an X3, I highly recommend that you purchase a different board. My new Gigabyte 770 board properly detects my X3.
Overall Review:
Downloaded latest BIOS from Biostar's website and their BIOS updater utility. Ran it as carefully as I could, with no background tasks, but unfortunately BIOS corrupted and rendered board useless. Emailed Biostar tech support 3-4 times over the course of 3 weeks. Only received one response telling me to make sure I was using a "100% good quality" floppy disc (very poor English) to attempt to flash the BIOS. Asked them several times if they could send me a new BIOS chip, no responses. No phone # listed on their website. Biostar has the absolute worst support I've ever experienced, and this isn't the first time I've had trouble with one of their motherboards; I should have known better! I have since returned this board and upgraded to the excellent Gigabyte GA-MA770-DS3 board.
