Better than vista... 09/02/2008
This review is from: Microsoft Windows XP Home With SP2B for System Builders 1 Pack
Good stable OS (as stable as windows comes that is)
Much faster then vista(being it doesn't hog so much of your resources)
Much cheaper then the retail version
Not vista and overall, better then vista.
a bit expensive considering how long it's been out(but newegg seems to have the lowest price on it you can get)
Not as stable or good as a mac
I built a laptop and put XP in it. Runs great with no problems. FYI, I kept wondering if you needed to be a microsoft registered "system builder" to install this oem... I risked having that problem and bought it anyways. For those who are wondering about this, you do NOT have to be a microsoft registered system builder to install this. It will install just like a retail version. Only difference between oem and Retail is with OEM you can only install on ONE motherboard, and you get no tech support from microsoft. You also don't get a box; it comes in a package that's shrink wrapped. Mostly contains CD, COA, and lots of ms licensing crud.
Last thought, if you can afford a mac, get a mac. They are more reliable; and for what you get you aren't paying any more for it then you would for an equally equipped pc(same specs or as similar as you can get). If you want to stick with pc though, or run windows os on your mac, win XP (home or pro) OEM is the best choice.
