Would not Boot - Found a fix 11/12/2008
Large Capacity, Low Power, Great Price - makes for a great HDD-based backup drive.
I added 2 of these to an existing JBOD array to expand the storage of an existing network backup server. Drives connected to a older Silicon Image siI3112 controller. (Not on WD know compatibility list).
I jumpered the drive down to SATA 150, but would not boot; system would lock up at the controller BIOS boot pre-Windows.
However, when hot-inserted into Win OS, the drives came up no problem.
WD Tech support was pleasant but useless.
I use a lot of hardware, and I’m not fond of products with strange, undocumented anomalies like this. SI controllers are common.
However I would by the drive again because of the features I mentioned in “Pros” just make sure your controller is on WD’s compatibility list.
