great price, mediocre build quality. 01/06/2009
Trayless, no screws, no mounting brackets to mix up
uses oxford sata to FW chipset, compatible with booting ppc macs
fast and inexpensive
weak plastic tabs holding the drives in, one of them broke, had to remove it.
uses an inexplicable custom USB A to A cable to connect via USB rather than standard A to B cables. Not a big deal to me because I don't use the USB interface, but it could be a hassle to have to dig up a custom cable.
I've only used it in JBOD mode, so I can't comment on the RAID performance. Though you can hot-swap the drives, it causes both of them to momentarily disconnect while you do, even the one you're not switching; I'd recommend powering down completely before you do it just for safety.
The niggling physical problems really bring down what could otherwise be a solid device. But I guess at this price they had to cut corners somewhere...
