Good mouse until it's not 01/07/2009
This review is from: Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 4.0
I love this mouse's construction and feel. It's a very solid mouse for a while, assuming you're right handed. The placement and size of the buttons is perfect for my hand. I've owned several over the past few years.
Support in Linux is good, aside from the tilt-wheel functionality, which I've never really been inclined to use anyway.
After a while the left and/or right button invariably stop clicking consistently (on every one I've had), meaning that a casual click will sometimes fail to register. The result is that you have to be more attentive to your clicks and click more firmly, which makes using this mouse very frustrating, especially for gaming. Eventually, clicks can become impossible without pressing very hard, sometimes repeatedly.
Microsoft will replace these when they fail for free if you are still under warranty without question (I've gone through the process a few times), but since this is a chronic problem, I will probably not get one of these mice ever again.
If you can find a mouse that's got a similar design but fewer complaints of problems with the mouse buttons, you should probably go with that, unless spending about $30 per year is within your budget.
