Excellent low cost printer 02/21/2009
The print, copy, and fax features on this are great. Warm up time is pretty quick, which is a plus. One of my pet peeves about laser printers is the slow warm up time. I've used printers in and office environment that take as long as 2 minutes to warm up. You can expect to see a paper in the output tray under 30 seconds from warmup. The 23 PPM seems to be accurate.
I think the biggest pro of all is the wireless capability. It has made my life so much easier. We have 5 computers in our household that use the printer and setting this up was a breeze. (once I figured out how to do it)
The software that you're supposed to install did not work at all for me. The software claimed the printer wasn't on the network yet I could clearly see it in Network Places and could access it via web browser. I followed the instructions to the letter and after it rebooted, the install diagnostic tool said everything had failed. I got this on all five computers. I couldn't even print in Windows but I could still access it via web browser. What I did to at least be able to print was to uninstall all the software, and reinstall only the printer driver, and when it asked for the location of the printer, I entered in the IP address, not the node name. Once I did that, the printer worked just fine. Since the software doesn't work, I guess I won't be able to take advantage of scanning to the computer or keep track of faxes from the computer. Not a huge deal but it would've been nice.
If you can get the software to work, this is an amazing printer for the price ($189 as of this writing). Even if you can't, it's still a very nice printer and I have no regrets buying it.
Regarding the previous reviews about power spikes...I'm not sure what that's about. I have had no power issues at all. No lights dimming or breakers tripping. Maybe this is a problem in older buildings/homes with outdated wiring.
