Cool in more than one way 05/27/2009
This review is from: ZALMAN CNPS9700 LED 110mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler
Pros:
Cooled down my processor's temp (both idle and high-usage) anywhere from 15-20 degrees depending on what I'm doing. I was idling anywhere from 45-50 degrees Celsius on my Q6600, now it's usually closer to 30 or 33C.
Great for video encoding :-)
Also runs very quiet, especially considering what a beast it is.
Cons:
The included 'Fan Speed Controller' was broken. It was like the fan couldn't get enough power. The fan would sit there and twitch like it was trying to start spinning but couldn't quite get enough juice. I didn't really care since I wanted the mainboard to control it anyways, but you know...it would have been nice to have one less broken piece.
Also,
Those L.E.D.s look cool, but I wish there was an easy way to disable them. Blue light isn't the most helpful thing when trying to sleep, and I keep my computer in my bedroom.
Overall Review:
Because of the broken speed control adapter, I was worried about the overall quality, but after having this for several months now, I can assure you that the fan and heatsink are top-notch. Just let your motherboard take control of it.
I highly recommend this to anybody running too hot, especially with the summer months coming up.
Like others have said though, watch your case clearance. it is HUGE. But not really a problem is you have a real computer case, not one of the tiny ones.
