This review is from: ASUS Xonar HDAV1.3 Slim 24-bit 192KHz PCI Interface Audio Card with True Blu-ray Audio Designed to Fit All Home Theater PCs
Pros:
Does what it says. It is 6.5 inches long, perfect in htpc. It IS SLIM. No power connection like it's bigger brothers. A good use for pci and it gets the sound card away from the larger graphic cards on some MB. I have standard, deluxe, and now SLIM. If this is your first, read the pdf manuals.
Cons:
A little different than the other hdmi Xonars. By default, PCM is enabled in SPDIF. If you uncheck this hdmi bitstream will not work. In XP I had to search for Enhanced Display Driver Helper Service. Just google. Too bad HDDVD is not totally supported. If you have HDDVD, playback using SPDIF in TMT and HDMI in ASUS and it won't bitstream but works well.
Overall Review:
The driver says support for XP/64 but there is no support in TMT2 or TMT3 for XP/64. There are some still asking if it does. This card requires TMT2/3 for bitstreaming, so try trial first to make sure your system is compatible. If you don't need or want multichannel analog, this is the best with a SLIM footprint in your HTPC. It will output multichannel over hdmi. Upgrade to TMT3 is worthwhile.
