AMD, Very inexpensive, 4 cores, fast.
I have an older MB, ASUS MN2-SLI Deluxe. It has the NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI MCP chipset, which is great, I have had it for 3 or 4 years now, no problems. I had a 1.6g Sempron in it at the time of this upgrade. I also had windows 7 PRO x64 installed. It wasn't very fast (understatement.) I got this processor and proceeded to install it. Worked great before it would boot into Windows. When it got to the login screen, it reboot itself and trashed the OS. When I would try to reinstall (from flash drive and with USB mouse and keyboard) it would bluescreen as soon as I touched the mouse or keyboard with the error "bugcode_usb_driver". I went to technet to find info after trying a billion different things, and found this knowledgebase article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976972. It pertains to an issue with Windows 7 and Nvidia USB controllers. There is a hotfix for it which works fine. Put Sempron back in, reinstalled windows, applied hotfix, reinstalled this proc and works great.
