Two drives failed for me 10/17/2010
This review is from: Seagate BarraCuda LP ST32000542AS 2TB 5900 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive Bare Drive
Pros:
Inexpensive. Pretty fast (20-80MiBytes/sec). Quite.
Cons:
I've purchased 3 of these drives and one of them has failed after less than 6 months.
Another drive was defective (sending back to NewEgg for RMA).
The third drive (knock on wood) is working.
Overall Review:
I'm running SpinRite on the drive to see if it is truely gone bad or if it was just.
I'm going back to the more expensive Seagate Barracuda XT ST32000641AS drive which is faster and hopefully more reliable.
I need to start testing larger drives before I use them another post mentioned some utilities to test drives.
This is 2nd drive in a month to fail (delayed write failed is error I see in Windows). Other drive was also a 1TB "green" Western Digital (WD10EADS) drive that started giving "write errors" around 1 year old (Aug 2009)... Makes me not want to "go green"... I don't (yet) know if green drives fail at a faster rate than non-green drives.
