This review is from: Acer X1261P XGA 1024x768 2700 Lumens 3D Ready DLP Projector

Pros:

This is the 2nd projector I have purchased for my home media room. I replaced a SVGA Epson PowerLite S1 LCD 1400 lumen projector. I wanted the next level of resolution, and a little more brightness.

The image clarity is very good. Screen door effect is less noticable than with my previous LCD projector, and not an issue at normal viewing distance. The image is very bright projected onto a 100 inch diagonal screen (4:3). Even after putting it into Eco mode (~2150 lumens) and selecting 'Video' display mode (supposed best color reproduction @ ~1400 lumens) the image was still too bright for my basement media room (which is normally pretty dark). I had to custom adjust the brightness down to a level that was comfortable to my eyes.

Contrast ratio is significantly better than my old LCD projector.

When in ECO mode, the fan reduces to a speed that is hardly noticable.

There are no air filters. With ceiling mounting, hopefully dust will not be an issue.

Cons:

This is my first DLP. I notice a significant DLP rainbow effect with this projector, but have no other DLP experience I can compare it to. I like to have subtitles on for movies, and white letters on a dark background are very suseptible to rainbow as my eyes move between the words and the rest of the image. The physical zoom is very limited, and is only useful for making very fine adjustments to image size once you have determined the proper projection distance.

I have had minor lamp issues. It has shut off unexpected once, but after it cooled down, I was able to turn it back on OK. I have had lamp flicker, and found that I could make it go away by switching out of Eco mode. This is intermittent, and seems to be going away as the bulb ages (50 hours on it so far).

Overall Review:

There is no other projector with this set of specs that is anywhere close to the price you can buy these for now.

XGA: 1024 x 768
2700 lumens
3D ready
3700 contrast ratio
5000/6000 hours lamp life

I don't have the required 3D setup, so did not test that, hopefully I will grow into that in the future.
