Fastest consumer grade drive. Running tests even with the old firmware shows a speed about the advertised. Highly recommended. But make sure you've updated the firmware.
Comes with an old (1.3) firmware and you need to update the firmware before putting any data into the drive. Updating a firmware is destructive. Also I may assume that updating a firmware for some people may be quite a hassle.
-1 egg for the old firmware and destructive update
Virtual machine on this drive shows a superior performance on write (about 2x times faster), however read speed is about the same and random R/W operations 3x times slower than on regular hard drive.
-1 egg for performance for Virtual machines.
Gnome disk utility shows quite uneven read speed with long "dips" when it goes about 2x times slower than the maximum.
-1 egg for uneven performance
Just discovered that there is a new firmware on "backing" at OCZ website. Even it says it is non-destructive just in case I need to backup an entire drive
again. Not very convenient.
-1 egg for yet another hassle. OCZ should test the product first than be the "first" with the fastest drive on the marke
Update a firmware first, it is destructive.
I prefer to use a Linux based tool to upgrade the firmware. You need UNetbootin tool and a flash drive and download ISO image Anyway you need to run a firmware update when an OS is not running (i.e. you cannot update a system drive).
Firmware upgrades are normally provided to refine performance on specific hardware platforms. In cases where new computer components and systems are released to the market, firmware updates may be necessary. We aplogize for the inconvenience. We care about our customers and are here to help. Thank you
