Very poor expansion card compatability 08/21/2012
This review is from: SUPERMICRO MBD-X9SCL+-F Micro ATX Server Motherboard LGA 1155 Intel C202 DDR3 1333
Nice board, quality components, IPMI
4 out of the 5 expansion cards I've tried have required BIOS upgrades or downgrades to get working. Right now it won't detect a quad port Intel "PT" NIC and crashes (hard locks) with a dual port Intel "PT" NIC installed. Previously, I had to get a beta BIOS from support to use an LSI SAS controller & before that I had to downgrade the BIOS to get an Adaptec RAID controller to be detected.
It's a real nice board if you don't want to use any PCI-e cards in it, otherwise expect it to take a week or 2 for Supermicro support to churn you out a beta BIOS...assuming you can sell them on supporting the issue.
This lack of compatibility with common PCI-e cards makes for a very poor experience bringing up a home ESXi box or a FreeNAS server.
Overall I'm very disappointed with these boards (I have 2). Coming from Supermicro I expected a lot more out of them , in fact I think it's fair that I should be able to expect them to work with common, brand name add-on cards.
As it is now I would have a tough time recommending anyone use one of these boards
