Solid Card 10/22/2012
This review is from: Intel RAID Controller Card SATA/SAS PCI-E x8 8internal ports (SASUC8I)
Pros:
Great controller for Linux based file servers. I've been running this controller attached to 8 1TB drives in one of my file servers since Sep-2011 with no problems. Works great with N82E16816116099 - 3Ware SFF8087 cables. I run the card as an 8-port JBOD and use software RAID and it has worked very well for me thus far. I can stream 4 1080p movies simultaneously while still conducting light duty file server tasks (backups running over WAN link, NFS mounts from many sources etc).
Cons:
This controller card isn't going to win any races. Not the fastest but consistent and reliable.
Overall Review:
While not the fastest card out there (on-board controller actually seems a little faster) it can't be beat at this price point. I wish I there was a PCI-E Gen 2 model with 6Gbps link speed at a similar price point. If one doesn't show, I'll go ahead and pick up 1-2 more of these for my next file server build out.
