5 out of 5 eggs Excellent closed loop water cooler 11/17/2012

This review is from: Thermaltake CLW0217 Water 2.0 Extreme/All-In-One Liquid Cooling System

Pros:

Currently the best closed loop cooler on the market, even besting the H100 from Antec. Fan control software works great and is very useful (fan speed, cpu temp, water temp, pump rpm); rubber hoses; pump seems to be really solid quality. It's keeping my 3570K in the upper 50s Celsius under load, which is overclocked to 4.3GHz with 1.2v. With my prior air cooler, a CM Hyper 212 Evo, load temps reached very high 60s to low 70s - not bad for air, but TT Water 2.0 Extreme has resulted in a 10c-12c drop in load temps.

Shop around for this cooler as there as good prices out there.

Cons:

Not really a con, but do your homework before buying this, or any, closed loop water cooling system. I have a Cooler Master HAF XM mid-tower, and after about 20 mins had decided this cooler just wasn't going to install properly. The CPU power connector on the top of the mobo can easily get in the way, or your mobo heatsinks, or your RAM - there are lots of opportunities for this cooler to cause you some headaches. Do yourself a favor before you mount anything and look at all your mounting options. I ended up mounting my Rad underneath the bracket and installed the fans in a "pull" arrangement where the rad would typically go. I did have to flex my mobo a bit, but it works. There was no way to mount the entire unit (rad + fans) either on the top of the bracket, or underneath. If you have the case I do, this will be your only option. You can't mount the entire unit on the top, where you really want to, because the unit is then too tall and the rad cover (from your case) won't fit at all. In a perfect world, you could install this entire unit in about 15-20 minutes, but if you have space issues, it could take an hour or so. It took me about 45 minutes.

Overall Review:

I debated for days between this cooler and the H100 from Antec - this is a newer model that specs better than the Antec, but the Antec has very good reviews - although I have read complaints of pump noise. So I took the plunge on the WE 2.0 Extreme after finding a solid price from one of the vendors named after a rainforest. When the box arrived, I was very pleased with the hardware; it is well built and I really liked the rubber hoses and overall design. The radiator is very nice and only had a few bent fins, which I fixed prior to installing.
Unless you are benchmarking, you will never run the fan control software in "extreme" - it's loud. The system works well in "silent" mode, and there's also a custom option. Silent works great and you'll probably leave it there 90% of the time.
Also - remove the stock thermal paste and use your favorite brand.
