5 year review 12/24/2012
This review is from: Antec Basiq BP500U 500W Continuous Power ATX12V Version 2.01 Active PFC Power Supply - Intel Haswell Fully Compatible
Pros:
This PSU was my first PSU I bought when I built my first PC in 2007, around the time LGA775's were common: C2D E4500, evga 7600GT. It is still going VERY strong after 5 years. The title "basiq" I think reflects it's non-high powered nature. But if you need rock solid reliability, my machine can be proof of that. Ive 'upgraded' to an evga GTS 450 and a q6600 and it still chugs along just fine. Our neighborhood has frequent brown outs (short ones, like lights dim and tv power's off) but this PSU hasn't let my PC restart at all.
Also I have 7 case fans, 2 cpu fans, and I extra fan (all 120mm Cooler Master item #N82E16835103052) in a old CM690 case. Idk if fans drink alot of power juice, but i thought i'd mention that if they do.
Cons:
The 80mm fan has gotten noisier over the years. Noisier in terms of hearing the blades spinning. Accumulation of dust probably is the problem though. Also the cords aren't sleeved but it's really no big deal.
Overall Review:
I should say though that I keep my PC on 24/7. The only occasion where I turn it off is for vacation or when the power goes out. But other then that its on all the time. So again, this thing is rock solid and has not failed me once.
