Shockingly slow in ESXi 5 12/24/2012
This review is from: NETGEAR ReadyNAS Ultra 2-bay (diskless) w/ 3 yr warranty
Fast enough in ESXi 5 using NFS (up to 80mbps). High quality construction and running a fully usable linux distribution.
Bought to use as storage in ESXi 5 via iscsi. Firmware 4.2.20 is the first version to support esxi 5, I installed 4.2.22 which is supposed to have further refinements. Using dedicated intel gig nics and a crossover cable, I can only get around 2 to 4mbps to the NAS over iscsi. NFS is much higher at around 80mbps, but iscsi is effectively useless.
I've tried several work arounds including disabling header and data digests, setting static discovery, different nics, cables, even going so far as to get into the NAS itself and mess with the ietd.conf. Hopefully a newer firmware will make this dude love iscsi. Not sending it back, still very useful via NFS and great for ghetto-vcb.
