WD solid - not these drives 02/24/2013

I purchased three of these Nov 9, 2012. One went into a machine for my brother, one into a machine for my father, and one went into my RAID 5. Imagine the face I had to save when the two going into my family's machines were Dead On Arrival. Newegg was awesome enough to replace those drives (plus cost of shipping the bad drives to them). One family member accepted the replacement while the other decided to go with a different brand. So now I had a spare (replacement).
The one which went into my RAID 5 failed last week. I put the spare into it. Unfortunately I don't have high hopes.
I do realize the drives aren't "designed" for RAID-level use. However, until Caviar Red warranty gets bumped up or RE4 price comes down, this is what I decided to use at the time.
I will still go with warranty on this bad drive. Of course, through the manufacturer because it has been more than 30 days since purchase.
