Some manufacturers place restrictions on how details of their products may be communicated.
It does what it's supposed to but... 03/22/2013
This review is from: Intel RAID Twenty-four port Expander Card RES2SV240
- supposed to expand your controller's drive hosting capabilities
- the instructions are terrible
- out of the box it didn't work
The instructions explain how to install the device into your motherboard in but it doesn't explain how to connect it to your SAS card with enough detail. The diagram has a lot of arrows and boxes of text, but it's not at all technical. You receive two short SAS cables which you expect to go between the expander and the controller, but the guide doesn't say to connect one or two if you're going to two hotswap backplanes. When the unnit doesn't work, calling Intel is useless as their overseas technical support representatives aren't so technical and their advice when things don't work is to flash upgrade your hardware. "Does this device even have a flash upgrade?" "I don't know... let me check." That certainly gives me confidence.
I suggest utilizing a controller from a manufacturer with more than two ports if you need more than 8 drives expanded.
