Gigabyte lured me away from the brand I've been using almost exclusively for the past 12 years with this board. I had good luck with one of their previous boards, which I bought because it was cheap. That board has been running nonstop for three years submerged in 5 gallons of mineral oil. I knew the durability will probably be there with this one. I also liked/needed the layout, especially the extra pcie 1 over the top of pcie 2.0 slot on the board. A lot of boards are set up so if you put the video card in the first slot, then you lose the use of the pcie1 slot. I liked the color as well, Sata and USB header placement was good for me. However.....
I flat out knocked two eggs off for this. The bios itself isn't that difficult to mange, in fact it reminds me of the setup screens of some of the higher end printer/copiers that are out there. I also get that when you first put RAM in it will sometimes default to slow settings so you can be sure of a clean boot. In this case 1333mhz. However. It. Simply Would. Not. Take. And. Keep. The. Settings. I fought this board for over an hour, updated the bios, and tried some more. I finally got it to take by playing with other settings, cpu, fsb, et cetra, and found a stable configuration that gives me my memory speed of 1866Mhz, but I had to slightly up my processer speed. Good thing the fx-8150 turbos out at 4.2Ghz or i'd have had some issues there as well.
It's a good board. Great actually in many ways. The sound chip is incredible. No blue screening when I moved my drive over which I've had to fight with on other models. Now that I have the proper settings the performance is pretty darn good. That being said... if you've never overclocked, never had to manually set memory or other settings, or are building your first pc, stay away unless someone tech savvy can help you. Overall it seems worth the price, but when you're swearing at 3:00am to set it up, you'll have your doubts.
