Great for DD-WRT 01/13/2014
This review is from: Rosewill RNX-N300RT, Wireless N300 Wi-Fi Router, IEEE 802.11b/11g/11n, Up to 300Mbps Wireless Data Rates, 2x 5dBi Fixed Antennas, DD-WRT Open Source Support
Pros:
Cheap price. Look for it to go on sale.
This router works great with DD-WRT. I had a Linksys E1200, E1500, and a Netgear WNDR3300 all running DD-WRT and all 3 game me problems.
I managed to eventually brick my first one by loading the wrong firmware on the device (I was multitasking and ran the netgear one on it by accident). Since the performance had been so great up to that point, I bought 3 new ones so that I'd have on model throughout my house. I have one in my basement acting as the router with Wi-Fi turned off. I have two others on either end of my house to give me Wi-Fi coverage across the whole thing. Now it works great.
If you'd like to install DD-WRT on it, just download the "webflash for first installation" firmware from the DD-WRT website. Search their Router Database for "N300RT" to find it. From a brand new unit, just connect to it via the web console (192.168.1.1), then load the firmware. From there, use it like any other DD-WRT device.
Cons:
Doesn't support 802.11ac or have any USB ports. he router is a great value, but it can't do things above what it is specified to do.
Overall Review:
I haven't tried this device with its stock firmware, just DD-WRT. This device has been so great for the money, that I have bought a total of 4 of them.
