Surprisingly Good Little Tablet 01/13/2014
This review is from: TOSHIBA Encore WT8-A32 Intel Atom Z3740 2GB Memory 32GB eMMC 8.0" Touchscreen Tablet Windows 8.1
Pros:
Light Wintel tablet with just enough processing power to handle most daily-tasks. This tablet easily handles HD movies (MKV containers and MP4 files) and using standard Windows applications. Couch surfing is a breeze and quite enjoyable.
The battery life is excellent and unlike larger tablets it can be charged via USB (note that it requires 2 Amps of current, which many older - read airline - chargers don't provide).
The touchscreen is excellent and responsive, even when using the more classic Windows interface (i.e. not Metro).
Cons:
Windows 8.1 while a huge step in the right direction compared to 8 is the biggest detractor for this tablet. Given this isn't Toshiba's fault, I can't subtract any eggs.
There is some minor flex in the screen and casing where the two meet at the edges of the device. Nothing major, but noticeable.
Overall Review:
The fact that this has HDMI out was perhaps the single most important feature for me as I plan to use for traveling and can hook the tablet up to TVs.
Additionally I suggest anyone getting this tablet to also invest in a USB OTG cable adapter, as this will allow the use of full-size USB drives and other USB peripherals with their tablet.
