Perfect high-end HTPC or low end server board 01/31/2014
This review is from: ASUS E45M1-M PRO AMD E-450 APU AMD Hudson M1 Micro ATX Motherboard/CPU Combo
This is an expensive board but has optical out and great onboard video for HTPC use. It's overkill for most home theater systems, however. I have two of these MBs as HTPC front-ends and one Foxconn AT-5570 fanless systems. The little Foxconn performs about the same, for HTPC but is missing optical out (only has coax digital out).
It's also a great, low power, SOHO, server board. I have two for this purpose, also.
I did not install the supplied CPU fan on any of my boards. I don't work the CPUs hard, to say the least, but temperatures have been excellent. I just plug the rear case fan into the CPU fan header on the motherboard and let CnQ do the rest.
It maxes out at 8GB of RAM, limiting performance as a file server. This limit comes from the ASUS BIOS.
Also, it's too expensive.
This board is available at a lower price from another vendor so that is where I purchased my last board.
