Pretty "meh" 02/21/2014
This laptop is relatively cheap for the specs you get. An older i5 and SSD handle general computing with ease.
It comes with Windows 7 so you don't have to "upgrade" from Windows 8.
More battery life than I expected. I get just about three hours for light web surfing/coding.
I had to have newegg RMA the first unit I received. It appeared as if it had never gone through quality control. If it did, the person that approved it must have been very sleep deprived.
-The first one had a large chunk of insulation missing on the charger, allowing the wires to arc (yes, they arced). The charger also didn't charge the laptop.
-The left click button had no "click" feedback left. It was entirely worn out.
-The lid did not latch.
-The laptop was pretty dirty looking. Nasty stuff in the speaker grills and on the screen.
With both the original laptop I received and the replacement, the screen quality is incredibly poor. It cannot really display red properly. It's more like a pale pink/orange color. It's still usable, but it's not beautiful by any means.
With the laptop I currently have, I'm having issues with the drivers. I tried to contact Dell but they said my coverage (warranty) was void. Not sure how that's possible, or who to contact about getting that resolved. It seems like any of the updates they suggest, via the Dell support website, don't work. I've tried many times to get myself off the original BIOS, and none of their updates will even start. They fail on start.
The laptop gets really hot. Unless you like your legs cooked to about medium, I'd say this is only a for table use laptop.
For those wondering if it has a webcam, it doesn't. The little thing on the lid that looks like webcam is a light sensor.
The SSD in this laptop is a Samsung PB22 FDE. They don't necessary seem to have the best track record with speed or reliability.
Not sure I'd buy refurbished again. Hopefully my job will pay for a good new one after college.
