Not reliable 02/24/2014
This review is from: OCZ Vector Series 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC VTR1-25SAT3-256G
Pros:
Comes with a 3.5" to 2.5" adapter (which I will use when I get a new Samsung Pro 256gb SSD).
Cons:
I bought this on 2/28/2013 and installed it in my Lenovo Y580 Laptop. Everything went fine for the first 4 months.
Then, in July, when I arrived at work in the morning and try to boot the laptop, it wouldn't boot. After a couple of restart, Windows came into a infinite boot error/repair loop. Came back home to try to resolve the problem, which finally could only be done by secure erase the disk and re install Windows and everything else (unplanned format, great...)
The SSD ran flawlessly for 6 months. Then it happened again in January. At log on, Windows kept on crashing. Rebooted in safe mode to realize it was a write error that was causing explorer.exe to crash. After trying to repair, Windows came in the same boot error/repair loop and I finally needed to do the same thing again (secured erase/re install).
Know knowing that the disk IS NOT RELIABLE and since I earn my life with my laptop as an IT consultant, I decided to swap my desktop Samsung Pro 256gb SSD with the OCZ Vector in my laptop.
No problem so far with the laptop, and I came home today to a disk failure on my desktop that was running with the Vector.
Overall Review:
I bought the Vector mainly because of the performance specs. I always thought that the Vertex line was reliable and fast, so I tried it... and it was a bad idea.
The Samsung Pro 256gb I got this fall works great and I'm pretty sure I could see any speed difference.
