This review is from: VCOM VC-USBSATA USB 2.0 to SATA/IDE Adapter
I plugged it up to an IDE CD-ROM drive, which I then used as an external drive for a small netbook. It worked as expected. And it is not that expensive.
There was one instance where, in the course of a read operation, the drive disappeared from Windows. However, this is an older, generic CD-ROM drive and the disk was scratched like crazy.
These kits are good in a pinch for recovering data from the hard drive of a dead PC and other misc. uses as described above. Any good PC tech should always have one of these on-hand. You never know when it will save your bacon.
