Another ANTI-1866Mhz board.. 06/06/2014
This review is from: GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+ AMD 990FX + SB950 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
Good VRM cooling, 2x Pciex16 slots, fancy looking.
I upgraded to this from a MSI G43-970A to suit my crossfire R9-270x's. The old MSI board was able to run my 4x4gb G. Skill Ripjaws X DDR3-1866 at 1866Mhz. This board however, REFUSES to run them any higher than 1600Mhz. I have tried both XMP's, setting it manually to 1866Mhz, adjusting timings, voltages....Any of these cause the board not to post. I had this same problem with my old Biostar TA970A and was happy that the MSI fixed the problem. Now I am back to the same problem, with a "higher end" board. Also, overclocking is very touchy and the board is rarely stable unless the overclock is minimal. This is odd, as the 990 chipsets are claimed to be "so much better" at overclocking.
Will try customer support, but will probably RMA this board for an Asus or another MSI. Seeing it takes two hours to remove all of my connectors, liquid cooling and motherboard, I do not want to keep doing this. If you say the native frequency is 1866mhz, it should run at that!
