• Performance Can Be Platform Dependent
This is my second review of the 256 GB Samsung 840 Pro. I recently had the opportunity to change platforms. I was using an AMD FX 8120 and had less than half the advertised performance on it no matter what I tried. I tried changing SATA ports and I even purchased a PCI-E SATA card which made absolutely no difference.
I then recently switched to an INTEL platform with an Intel Core-i5 4670K and the performance increase is MASSIVE. I not only get the advertised performance, it's actually higher!
I ran the Samsung Magician "Performance Benchmark".
• 927 Sequential Read
• 1025 Sequential Write
• 220376 Random Read (IOPS)
• 229254 Random Write (IOPS)
Long story short, if you have an AMD platform and you buy this SSD there's a pretty good chance you might not get the advertised speeds... INTEL on the other hand you probably will.
For anyone interested in what Motherboards I was using on each platform they were the following.
• AMD = GA-990FXA-UD3 (Revision 4.0)
• INTEL = ASUS Z97-A
