Falsely Advertised w/Poor Software 07/21/2014
This review is from: CM Storm Spawn - 3500 DPI Optical Gaming Mouse with Durable Omron Microswitches
Pros:
It will be cheap useless expenditure (~$15) after MIR when I bought it.
It is a comfortable mouse and seems to move nicely upon initial use.
Cons:
Mouse Software maps thumb buttons in reverse of visual layout in software (i.e. "Button 6" in the software maps to "Button 7" on the physical mouse, and vice versa).
Software also will not map some keyboard commands to mouse buttons. It will map "normal characters" (e.g. letters, spaces, and numbers), but compound keys (e.g. !@#$%^&, capital letters, etc) are a no go. Moreover, it will not pass Ctrl, Shift, or Alt despite the software saying it will pass said Left or Right version to the button in question on the mouse configuration software.
Overall Review:
Using Ctrl & Alt on a mouse may seem like an odd setup, but it has it's uses in some games. With it marketed as a "gaming" oriented mouse with "7 Fully Programmable Buttons" it is what I expected. I have used Logitech and Microsoft gaming mice in the past, at near the same price point, and they have always been able to do this with zero difficulty. Extremely disappointed. I have been very pleased with CoolerMaster PC Cases in the past but I will steer clear of their peripherals from here on out.
And before any reps ask... I verified that I was using the most current version of the mouse software, and I updated the firmware to the most recent version as well (and I also restarted my PC to make sure that wasn't an issue either).
Manufacturer Response:
Hello Christopher,
I apologize for the trouble that you having with the software. We can look into this further as there are some macro combinations the mouse and software cannot perform. The Button swap is not normal on the mouse in the software. We can look into about providing a replacement for you or help troubleshoot further using the software provided with the mouse. Please contact us at 888-624-5099 or by livechat to see what we can help with. Please let us know.
Respectfully,
Robert N.
