Good Stuff 05/25/2007
This review is from: D-Link DNS-323 2-Bay Network Storage Enclosure
Pros:
I use this mainly as a file server - I do not use the iTunes streaming server or any of the other servers, so I'm not commenting on that. This replaced server machine I was using as a file server, and I can say that as a file server, this thing is great. It's small, quiet, and just flat out works. I have had no issues with it, the admin screens are useful and have good features. It only draws 21 to 25 Watts so it's power-bill friendly. For what I use it for, I am extremely pleased.
Cons:
Only 2 drive bays, so no RAID5. But for the price point, I can hardly complain. My only real complaint is the user/group admin. You cannot deny access to any folders, only set up read or read/write access. So, fairly trivial but annoying. Perhaps this will be corrected in a future firmware release.
Overall Review:
The first thing I did before putting data on the drives was update to the newest firmware. I strongly suggest doing this before you start populating the drives, as the first time I did this it forced me to reformat the drives.
