Pros: Great specs Windows comes loaded on the SSD for fast booting Case is very easy to open Lots of room inside the case for airflow Comes with an ASUS DVD drive, though not mentioned in description
Cons: Problems with the system's assembly/packaging that required some fixing The mouse takes some getting used to
Overall Review: With the release of Fallout 4 and Battlefront I have been looking for a new desktop that can handle these new titles. This system is able to run Fallout 4 on Ultra settings with no dip in FPS for me (so far). I also do photo editing and 3D work in gimp, blender, and krita, and this system is up to that task as well. And while having no affect on actual performance, the led lit keyboard and mouse are a nice touch. The mouse itself has two buttons on the left side near where your thumb rests. At first I was constantly pressing those buttons on accident so it takes some getting used to. However, the real issue came with the assembly/packaging of the system. This is actually the 2nd one of these I've had in my house in the last month. The first one I ordered was defective. When I first pulled the case out of the box I heard a loud clucking noise inside the case. When I opened it up to remove the padding I saw the the heatsink/fan had become detached from the CPU. The padding was also not inserted properly so it was completely on one side of the case offering no protection to the other side. So essentially a big chunk of metal and plastic had been rolling around in the case during shipping. Fortunately Newegg's RMA process is mostly painless, so it wasn't long before I had the system replaced. This time when I pulled the case out of box I didn't hear anything. I opened it up to remove padding, which was covering the entire system this time. However when I pulled the padding out, again the heatsink/fan were detached from the CPU. Not wanting to wait for a third system that would likely have the same issues, I took a chance and reattached the heatsink/fan to the CPU. While it is a tight area to work in, the bracket that holds the heatsink/fan in place is fairly easy to attach and doesn't require attaching anything directly to the motherboard with a screwdriver. So it seems like there is some inherent flaw in the design/assembly of this system. Since the heatsink/fan are essentially being held in place by a clip (once in place it does feel secure) and not being bolted directly into the motherboard, my guess is either the padding is causing it to come loose when it expands, or it's happening during shipping. Either way it is extremely frustrating and potentially damaging to the system. So far the system has not come close to overheating, but I'm keeping my eye on it in the mean time. Overall the system itself is great, and if you're willing to take a risk and have a little bit a tech knowledge this system could work for you. However be warned as you'll likely have to do a little bit of tinkering yourself, or you'll have to return it. I'll certainly be getting the extended warranty just in case.
