Pros: This product is used for Computer Animation. It renders in Mental Ray faster then several Macintoshes I've seen by 4 times! A previous buyer stated this laptop can play World of Warcraft at full settings. I confirm that. This laptop runs 3D Studio Max, Maya Unlimited 7.01 and Photoshop CS2 at the same time effectively. This laptop is user friendly. Its wireless functionality makes life simple. I’m normally a person who believes that an antivirus software product should NOT be installed on the same machine but rather on a server. The laptop comes with a copy of Norton which has thus far caused me to speculate on that opinion. The laptop’s camera has proven itself to be more powerful then a few other desktop cameras’ I’ve used. The laptop also has an interesting AI (Artificial Intelligence) which alters the functionality of the computer when you are or are not plugged into AC. The AI appears to run very effectively when preserving power for your battery.

Cons: The laptop's sound system is a major draw back. When playing World of Warcraft, the sound comparison between this laptop and a desktop running with Sound Blaster Audigy is big. The laptop meets less then 50% its quality in the comparison. Also, this laptop heats up fast, so do not cover the vent! Any laptop this powerful would heat up. Do not be discouraged by the heat. However, be cautious and smart on your buying plans. Because heat can damage, and heat is caused by the machine, buy an extended manufactory unlimited warrantee plan. Do not cover the vent! It is big and for good reasons. The laptop specifications state the battery life time is 3.5 hours. I have confirmed it is more realistically 3 hours. It may be wise to be a backup battery. Because this product uses ATI video cards, its video compatibility with Linux may be questioned. More over, using Cedega (Windows Game Translator for Linux) may not be as effective as using something with NVIDIA.

Overall Review: This laptop has proven itself to be a worthy buying machine. Also, what is not stated is this machine is confirmed to be Windows Vista Ready. This means, when Windows Vista is released, the laptop should have no problems running it. I spoke with a few programmers who have been beta testing Windows Vista, and they feel this OS (Operating System) is VERY good! Having a laptop ready to run it is IMPORTANT! The laptop has 4 USB slots, 2 on each side. It is not necessary to buy a USB panel or a cooling device which must have one built in. The laptop does not have a keyboard lighting system, so if you plan to use this in the dark, buy additional parts to light up the keyboard. Regardless of the pros or cons, this laptop is worth every penny I spent on it. I highly recommend buying this product if you render, play games, or simply wish to have a computer to do basic media related things. FYI for Mental Ray Renderers: Product Renders at 8 satellite CPUs.

Pros: Likely the least $$ laptop i've seen with an x1600. I bought two gigs of memory along with it and installed it before booting it for the first time. It was a little difficult getting the mem. upgrade door off the bottom (the bigger door) which also exposes the GPU. With the memory upgrade this thing is quite ideal for a gaming notebook, considering the much higher price they put on the actual gaming laptops that have lower end video cards. I'm considering replacing my gaming setup with this. If you want a laptop with power and are going to do more than web browsing, while keeping your arm and leg get this laptop, it rulez :)

Cons: Screen is a little on the cheaper end, but looks good regardless the price. And ofcourse the HD comes in two partitions cut right in half, which boggles me, in FAT32 (even better).

Overall Review: My advice, boot the computer, make a backup disk. Merge the partitions, then reformat. Haha, make sure you make that backup disk :o I personally don't like FAT32 because of its limitations. Incase you didn't already know, you can convert to NTFS while running windows in the command prompt with the "convert C: /fs:ntfs" command. Then just restart and your good.

Pros: Definitely the best deal out there right now. You won't regret this purchase. I've been playing FEAR on it at medium-high settings with little lag. Battery life is reasonable at 2.5 - 3 hours (you can't expect to be unplugged all day). A ton of nice integrated features. Bottom line - just buy it!!

Overall Review: Bloatware isn't bad, some of it is very useful. Partitions can be merged easily with Partition Magic and file system converted using 'convert C: /fs:ntfs' in the command prompt, both without data loss. Mic works fine in Ventrilo if you amplify the signal. You'll adjust to the integrated speakers quickly and they'll sound fine.

Pros: Has not given me any trouble whatsoever since day 1. Flawless operation. Replaced home edition with ProXP. All drivers present on Acers Website. Games, business, the web..you can't go wrong.

Overall Review: The overheat issue is vastly overstated. I sold laptops for 6yrs, I know what I'm talking about. Excellent screen, every kind of input/output known to man. This is a very nice laptop.

Pros: Everything works, arrived in one piece from NewEgg. I've had no problems with it at all. I especially like the slot feed DVD RW. Can absolutely put to rest the overheat criticism. I've sold notebooks for a living in the past and this ones reputation is undeserved. Mine barely got hot at all running Halo and X-Plane.

Overall Review: Am ordering 2gigs of ram as I type.

Pros: The specs on this machine are absolutely outstanding for the price. The Intel Centrino Core Duo paired with 1gb of ram and a SATA hard drive all come together very well for running any type of application. The x1600 video card runs all of my games at high settings with good fps. Counter-Strike: Source runs at maximum settings and 1280x800 resolution and I can be in a 40 person server and not lag. It also plays Oblivion on high settings without much lag. This laptop has scored a 4875 on 3dmark03, which isn't bad for a laptop under two grand, especially when it's this far under. The bluetooth is nice if you have a new phone or other BT device. The wireless is great, I can pick up very strong connections from my neighbors and can also get an excellent connection anywhere in my house from my wireless router. The camera is nice for video conferencing.

Cons: Although the camera is nice for an online conference, don't expect to use it to record lectures or anything of that nature, as the refresh rate is pretty poor.

Overall Review: The heat coming from this laptop has so far been nothing to worry about...I've played games on it for a couple hours straight and it got hot, but any laptop with these kind of specs should be expected to put out some heat. I would recommend this laptop to anyone with the money. It is a great desktop replacement and can still be considered a portable notebook. It is a great machine that is way ahead of any other laptop or notebook in it's price range.

Cons: Like everyone else says, comes with XP home and partitioned harddrive, but both are easily fixed. Had to install the euro drivers for the built in video camera to get it working again after putting XP pro on the machine.

Overall Review: A previous poster suggested removing the black plastic sheet from the vent over the video card. Don't do this. The people that first suggested this have reversed themselves now and say it's important to keep it there so air is pulled from the other vents. This internal airflow is needed for other chips on the motherboard. If the plastic is removed it may lower the videocard temps but it stops the flow across other internal components.
