Reviews
Amer Networks SG4P1AT is designed for use with Power over Ethernet (PoE) devices. It provides up to 25.5W of power to 802.3at PoE compatible devices connected to the switch's PoE ports. The Switch allows these devices to draw power from the switch and remove the need for a power adapter. Some devices that may have support for 802.3at are Wireless Access Points, IP Phones and IP Cameras. The Switch’s ports automatically negotiate between 10BASE-T,100BASE-TX and 1000BASE-T network speeds, as well as between full and half duplex modes, so any port can connect to a Fast Ethernet or Ethernet network. The ports also support Auto MDIX, allowing the automatic detection of a straight through or cross-over cable, this feature reduces support problems commonly caused by incorrect cable usage.

• Standard IEEE802.3at support
With the IEEE802.3at support and the use of PoE there are several advantages. With PD (Powered Devices) which are either located in locations with difficult access or areas where cable density would not be ideal. The PoE switch offers a solution due to the removal of the need for a power outlet to be dropped to the location of the device. There is also a benefit with the use of a uninterruptible power supply that can be placed only on the PoE switch itself instead of at each device. This increases the reliability of the network and ultimately decreases the maintenance and deployment cost. The 802.3at port on the switches also offers automatic detection of a PD (Powered Device). The switch will be able to determine if power is to be supplied to any of the PoE supported ports. This helps in the reduction of power used by the switch to power unused ports as well as insuring that power is not put out on wiring that is not connected to a PD.

• Metal Chassis Construction
The metal construction of the chassis allows for a more secure and reliable installation. The heat dissipation for the unit is increased allowing for a higher reliability over common plastic chassis. The metal construction also increases the units durability by not being as prone to cracking or melting if there was ever a power surge or other electrical problem.

• Wall and Desktop Mounting
With the compact design the unit can be placed easily in many locations. The unit also can be mounted to a wall or under a desk or other object with the wall mounting kit which easily aids in the placement of the unit where you may need it.

• RJ-45 Port Alignment
The SG4P1AT is designed with the RJ-45 ports on the unit rotated from a more traditional configuration to one that allows the RJ-45 cable’s connector to have its release tab on the top of the switch. The advantage here is in wall mounted installations where the switch is physically anchored with the release tab on the bottom, the access to the removal of the cables are difficult without dismounting the switch. With the top aligned tab the cabling can be easily access for reconfiguration.
