Pratical Design with Good Performance 8/28/2020 3:03:10 PM

Pros: I like the design of this surge protector, which is why I bought it, as it's a) narrow enough to fit in the space where I need to place it but not anywhere near as wide as a lot of other protectors and b) the plugs are arranged to where you can have a few items with "wall warts" plugged in and not have them block any of the other outlets. It also has a good Joule rating so it can stand a pretty good surge and not fail.

Cons: I wish this was available with like a 4ft power cord as its 6ft one is nice but is longer than I really need so there's some extra that I have to tuck away. Even though it comes with two USB charging ports I really don't need, or will use them. They will be too far of a reach for where it is to use them so these could have been removed.

Overall Review: Very good. It's design was exactly what I was looking for and I'm glad I got it.

Great Surge Protector 4/11/2020 6:00:23 PM

Overall Review: The outlets are spaced enough apart so you can plug in large transformers (wish companies would stop using these types of combo transformer/plugs). And the USB ports seem to be fine, haven't spent the time to rate the output, just using them as a long term plugin option for now. Glad APC updated this classic strip to modern needs.

Nice Product 7/23/2019 11:13:25 AM

Pros: Plenty of protected outlets, decent electrical protection level, single coax protection, visible indications for ground fault and protection fault. Nice swivel on main power cord connection to protector body. Easy to connect everything, indicator lights suggest all is well, no ground fault, surge protection active.

Cons: No hard-wired ethernet protection, phone/DSL line protection probably not useful for most.

Overall Review: Good, inexpensive basic surge protector with coax and phone protection, great for TV with cable box.

Good product but... 9/14/2018 2:49:13 PM

Pros: - Seems good qualty

Cons: Buid quality not perfect! mould injected plastic shows color disparity lines... But the one I had before had some too, so I guess it is someway O.K.

Overall Review: Not bad but could be improved.

Notes About the Mounting Holes (error in manual) 6/14/2018 6:35:45 AM

Pros: APC P8U2 SurgeArrest
---------------------------------

I chose this power strip because I wanted
-> At least 8 outlets
-> Several outlets spaced for transformers
-> USB charging
-> A flat style plug so furniture can be pushed against it
-> A guard around the power switch to prevent it from being switched unintentionally
-> A design that would make it appropriate for mounting on the side of a desk

So far I am quite happy with it.

Cons: There is a bad error in the diagram for the mounting keyholes in the manual, and a minor problem with the keyholes' design.

TAKE NOTE OF THIS ERROR IF YOU MOUNT THIS STRIP: the two keyholes are 160mm between centers, not 116mm as the manual states (http://www.apc.com/salestools/AHUG-9X5BCC/AHUG-9X5BCC_R1_EN.pdf).

As for the design issue, the keyholes have three slots off the central hole for locking them against the screw heads, and the one side that lacks a slot is toward the top, long edge of the power strip when looking at its front with the APC logo right side up. This is the one I needed in order to best mount the power strip horizontally with the USB ports on top. This seems like the best mounting orientation because it allows transformers to hang downward, and keeps cords from hanging in the way of the USB ports (and the logo seems oriented for it). I do not know why APC would neglect this orientation in the keyhole design.

Instead of being able to slide the strip downward to lock it as I would have liked, I had to slide it to one side and use a stopper screw on the trailing end to prevent it from sliding back during use. This is not much of a problem, though.

Overall Review: Here is some advice about mounting the power strip.

First, if you are mounting this into the side of a desk as I did, especially if the desk is made of particle board as most are, I recommend using bolts with a washer and nut on the opposite side of the mounting surface for additional durability. Screws may eventually loosen or pull out if the power strip sustains frequent stress from plugs being pulled out. If you're mounting to a wall, be sure to find a stud, and drill pilot holes for the screws. Be sure your bolts or screws fit in the keyholes before mounting them.

One way to position the mounting screws is to first create a template by placing a sheet of paper against the back of the power strip and tracing out its edges and the keyholes. Then cut this out and tape it in place where you intend to mount the power strip. Remember to account for the fact that the template will be in mirror image when you place it against the mounting surface, and that the keyholes are centered width-wise by the full keyhole (entry + one slot), not by the entry hole centers.

Use a nail or other pointed tool to punch through the template and make a dimple in the mounting surface as a guide for the drill bit. Then, BEFORE YOU DRILL BOTH HOLES, measure the distance to make sure you got it right. If you are off by more than a couple millimeters, the screws will not fit into the keyholes right. I messed this up the first time by trusting my template and the steadiness of my hand while drilling, and not remeasuring the 160mm distance.

Optionally add a third screw against the trailing side of the power strip after locking the strip into place to prevent it from sliding back off during use.

about as simple as pluging it in 6/9/2018 1:47:22 PM

Pros: long cord holes on the back are easy to mount USB is great

Cons: there's nothing that I don't really like per-say I just wish the swing thing for the cord was more clicky and some type of lock ish style to keep it in place but zip ties worked for me not always needed and may not be needed in all case it was just my case

Overall Review: I would recommend this to anybody and their mamma
