Pros: - XMP profile worked right away despite RAM not being on the QVL (G. Skill F4-3600C18D-32GVK). - PCIe slots do not get throttled/disabled regardless of M.2/PCIe slot configuration. - Reasonable price for dipping your feet into PCIe 4.0. - Clear CMOS button is a nice bonus. - Fantastic number of USB 3.2 Gen1/2 ports on back panel without a superfluous number of 2.0 ports. - Completely default configuration was seeing expected Cinebench R20 scores without any tweaking needed. - Default fan setting of silent is indeed dead silent in most cases and still very quiet under max load with a Ryzen 3600, Noctua U12S, IC Graphite Pad, and Fractal Design Define C with idle/load temperatures of 38°/79°C respectively at 24°C ambient.
Cons: - RGB LEDs default to ON while computer is off. Can be toggled in BIOS, but default setting is bad. - RGB LEDs cannot be disabled completely in BIOS, unlike the B450 Steel Legend. Was easy enough to disable through the ASRock Polychrome RGB software, but BIOS control would be preferable. - So far I'm unable to get Bluetooth working with the Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 card. Wi-fi works perfectly and was recognized immediately, but the computer doesn't seem to be aware of any Bluetooth functionality. I have support tickets open with ASRock and Intel and will update this when the situation has been resolved. - Removing the rear IO plate to thread the wireless antenna cables was a little fiddly, but can be done with patience. Final location is a little close USB ports and other IO. Had I known, I might have just installed the antenna ports in a PCI bracket. - USB ports are a little on the tight side—requires more force than I'm accustomed to when inserting and removing cables/devices. - Thermal compound between the M.2 and chipset heat sinks makes it somewhat difficult to remove the former during installation of an NVMe drive. The compound is sticky, but not messy. - The Software Setup Guide makes mention of BIOS features that do not actually exist. Perhaps coming in a future update?
Overall Review: Overall, I'm pretty happy with the board. I still think it's the best B550 on the market. It has the right combination of features at a good price (great price, if you count the mail-in rebate). Build experience was about what I expected for a first time build. I'm definitely glad I went mATX for the extra room to maneuver cables and things. My main complaints have more to do with the ATX standard than ASRock. I do wish ASRock had more boards with built-in wireless or at least had premounted antenna ports. The upgradability that the key E slot provides is nice in theory, but dealing with the antenna leads and the missing Bluetooth functionality has so far been the most annoying part of the build. Edit 07/09/20: A simple reseating of the Intel AX200 card managed to solve the Bluetooth issues. Strange that wi-fi can work while Bluetooth doesn't, but there you have it. Intel was nearly useless, and ASRock didn't reply to my message by the time this edit was made (about a week after I had first contacted them). Also amended with a few added cons and minor grammatical corrections.
