Pros: P R I C E , the price on this thing is simply AMAZING
-fast processor, EIGHT gigs of ram(some people are getting 1333mhz), the BEST mobile graphics card out
-two hard drive slots, upgradeable
Cons: -Missing a few ports here and there that I don't use anyways. Does not come with blue ray that I don't use anyways. This version only comes with a 500gb hard drive but that is easy to upgrade by myself.
-Does not come with a backpack/mouse, but everyone should already have a mouse, and backpacks aren't too expensive.
-Biggest con would have to be newegg jacking the prices
of this up by about $100 since I bought it, but it should be going back down when the other models get in.
Overall Review: Honestly for $1500(assuming the price stops going up), this is the best possible deal out there!
Pros: Great combination of tech for the price. I have always been satisfied with ASUS products and this certainly hasn't let me down. Really bummed I didn't manage to get the A1 version with the blu-ray and extra 500 gigs, but this is just a gaming laptop to augment my main desktop gaming rig so I will make do.
Cons: Did not come double boxed. Many others have commented on this, but I will reiterate this statement... WHAT ARE YOU THINKING??? sending something like this in just the laptop box it left the manufacturer in? The factory box I received obviously took several decent hits, and I was amazed to find no damage to the laptop and it fully functional. It blows my mind that this was not double boxed. I can only imagine the number of RMA's this packaging has resulted in.
Buy it, then uninstall the bloatware. Who buys this kind of laptop to play Alice Greenfingers???
Overall Review: DOUBLE BOX IT! Common Sense. UPS left this on my front porch. It literally stuck out like a big red $1,600 + thumb saying swipe me! luckily I am in a decent local, was only around back, and heard the truck.
Peeps looking for a good cooler, go with the Zalman NC2000. Perfect fit, good build, and keeps it nice n cool.
Pros: I love the notebook's looks. Aside from the LCD, it's not glossy and that's great in today's world of annoying mirror finishes that smudge up and scratch like crazy. I like how it's built with an incline starting at the front as this is quite ergonomic.
It feels solid, and the keyboard area has a rubberized texture that is superb. Lighted keys!
Performance is pretty good, but as usual the notebook hard drives aren't all that fast compared to desktop choices. The i7 gets the job done when you're CPU limited, especially when Turbo boost helps you with those single or dual-threaded apps and games. The push button overclock gets you another couple hundred MHz too.
The sound is great for a notebook. The subwoofer brings in some midrange that notebooks usually lack.
It's quiet and the heat stays under control thanks to a great cooling design.
Touchpad is made by Synaptics and they are my preferred manufacturer. It's large and works well.
Lots of USB ports. HDMI. Gigabit PCI
Cons: Screen isn't super bright. It's more than adequate though.
Touchpad has a terrible "unibutton" that functions as left and right click and is quite hard to push. I have no idea who would think this is a good idea.
You may get a defective GPU. I had to RMA mine for this as I was getting grey/black/corrupted screens with Catalyst 10.3 installed. Not cool and I've read many stories of this problem with this machine. It's not limited to this machine though (desktop cards too). Test for this immediately and RMA it if you have lockups with 3D apps/games. I recommend Prime95 and Furmark (or your fav games).
LCD could use a few more degrees of adjustment capability as it doesn't go back very far.
Bloatware isn't bad but it does come with a number of apps that I didn't want.
Overall Review: A well designed notebook that only has a few flaws, as long as you get one that's fully functional.
Pros: This machine is everything you could want and expect from ASUS' Top end. I purchased this laptop to get something as close to comparable to my current Desktop as possible for the right price. While it can't compete completely with it, I was shocked at how smoothly it was able to perform.
All of the specs here can be consider Pros, i7 CPU, 8GB DDR3, 7200RPM Drive, Top end Video Card, Amazing screen.
The LED Display is just amazing.
Very good heat dissipation
Cons: I hate the fact that the mouse button is a single stick. Having a separated left and right mouse click has always been much easier for me. Like any new system, it comes preloaded with some junk bloatware, but not too much, easy enough to get rid of. 2 Partitions. I've always used just a single partition, and while this is still a personal thing, its a con to me.
Overall Review: While I've been reading reviews complaining about the weight or heat of a gaming laptop, this laptop manages both very well. 8lbs is pretty heavy for a laptop, but its not overly heavy, and its a good weight for what it is.
secondly, I am completely stunned by the heat management of this beast. I had World of Warcraft running max settings for a good 6 hours straight, and it was just barely warm to my lap. The majority of the heat is move through the slightly raised back vents, so the heat doesn't get trapped.
Pros: I dont know were to begin. Im sure most of you readers are already well aware of what this pup is packing and its GREAT. So skip the technical stuff because we already know how great it is, especially for the price.
Design: The shape of this thing is more like art. Its angled edges are well crafted, rubber like texture of the whole thing its self is amazing, its black matte color is reminiscent of popular sports car color selection. Its like a Lamborghini Reventon in the comptuer world (minus the outlandish price!) The design itself is a reflection of its computing prowess. I love it!
Some more Pro's, I've had it exactly a week now and its performed like a champ. COD MW2, COD World At War, Borderlands, FarCry 2, Half Life 2, and all its episodes, installed, settings set to max, and all play without a single hitch! This thing doesnt even get hot. IDK how asus did it, but this thing, AMAZING. COD MW2 Plays online, maxed out settings, flawlessly too. No need to upgrade.
Cons: The mouse Button. Im not talkin about the single button thing, although thats pretty lame too. The placement of the mouse pad sucks. When playing games and using the WASD keys for forward, left, right, back, movemnts and what not, my palm regularly touches the pad and causes an unwanted shot from my gun, or sporatic movement of mouse wich is irratating. Reccomend seperate keyboard.
The screen tilt only goes back so many degrees, which should be fine for most people, but it could be a few degrees better.
The rubber-like texture is nice, but easily shows grease or dirt if you pick it up with dirty hands wich REALLY shows. Not a biggie though.
NEWEGG: Con for not providing the other models, yet charging us the same ammount for fewer features. (500 gig hard-drive vs x2 of them, lack of Blue-ray player, and no option to upgrade ram, processor, drives or anything else)
Bloat ware is pretty bad, but took about 30 minutes to uninstall all of it.
No issues with steam, btw.
Overall Review: Previous laptop was a Toshiba Satellite X205 (Core 2 duo processor @1.8 ghz, 2 gig ram ddr2, NVIDIA 8700M GT @ 512 MB dedicated mem, 17" display, 720p resolution, 320 gig hd @5400 rpm. WIN Vista 32bit.
The Asus G73JH is a huge step forward from my last laptop, and performs just how you'd expect with something containing these specifications.
It has been worth the buy, and HIGHLY recommend it to my fellow laptop gamers.
Did not come double boxed. Used UPS next day shipping. I literally just recieved the laptop box by itself. what the f newegg....
Pros: FAST FAST FAST!!! This thing does not skip a beat. Stays nice and cool. Screen is bright and crisp. This laptop is sure to impress! Great brand name and the free accidental coverage is awesome. Newegg is awesome too and got this shipped quick!
Cons: I don't think it is too attractive, but that really doesn't matter cause this thing is a powerhouse. I'd expect when I purchase a high end laptop that it wouldn't come with as much bloatware but this thing is freakin loaded! Spent the better part of my afternoon after receiving this uninstalling all the crud they pre-load on it. For $1,650 you'd think they could package it better for shipment (they shipped it in the original box instead of padding it).
Overall Review: This is the first true desktop replacement laptop I have ever owned. It is just as fast if not faster than any desktop I have ever built. It is worth every penny in my opinion, you will not be disappointed with this purchase! SPECIAL NOTE TO ASUS - A free laptop bag, mini mouse, or other accessory would be nice to include with this product. My last laptop I got from you (F8V series) came with a bag, mouse, etc. and was better packaged when it was shipped. What gives?
Pros: Sensational screen, large cooling system built in, whisper quiet, smooth but firm keyboard, elegant design, faster than my $3500 water-cooled desktop! This machine is simply awesome. It is built of very high quality materials inside and out. I've been managing enterprise IT environments for 20 years, and this is the first laptop I have fallen in love with. In the lest 8 years, I've gone through six large HP laptops. They never seem to last beyond the one year warranty. This machine comes with 2 years (including accidental damage), and if you fill out the warranty card within 30 days, you get a 3rd year free! ASUS provides glabal support on this machine with a 3-day turnaround for repairs. What's not to love. As others have said, it runs ALL the major games flawlessly! Kudos to ASUS!
Cons: I really have not seen any in the four days I've had it. The only problem I've had so far is finding just the right case that I want (this machine is large), but they are out there.
Overall Review: I know some reviewers have complained about the price, but you have to consider this is not your typical $799 Costco machine! This is a very powerful, very well-built system...the Mercedes Benz of laptops. If you just need a machine for school, this may be extravegant.
Pros: I wrote a review of this laptop when I originally bought it, and the price/performance is amazing. It is a great laptop when you don't need to talk to ASUS customer service.
Cons: As state above- the laptop itself is awesome. The accidental damage warranty was a huge bonus for me, as I have two small kids at home. The first thing I did upon receiving my machine in the mail was fill out the warranty card, and register my machine online. In early October, I unfortunately had a problem with my laptop's screen, and tried to send it for RMA under the accidental damage warranty. ASUS immediately denied that I had registered for it, despite me having sent both physical and electronic registrations. I haven't been able to get any updates from the RMA department despite multiple attempts to contact them, and it looks like I'm out of luck with the warranty despite the laptop being only five months old. BUYER BEWARE - it looks like ASUS will do anything to avoid honoring the accidental damage warranty. This is some of the worst customer service I have ever encountered.
Overall Review: This would be an amazing machine if you never had to deal with ASUS's customer service or dishonest ADW claims. I can prove that the laptop is five months old and legitimately purchased from Newegg, but it doesn't matter to ASUS. They will do anything they can to avoid honoring the commitments on the box, and trying to get it resolved has resulted in hours upon hours of phone calls with uninterested and unhelpful customer service people. Inexcusable.
