Pros: + Runs Cool and Quiet + Frugal power use for amount of performance + Priced great at time of purchase + two free games! + 3 year warranty
Cons: - Big and somewhat heavy
Overall Review: I have had great luck with Asus ROG Strix cards in the past, running a 980 ti for a while and currently have a Strix GTX 1070 in my son's gaming rig. So I sort of knew what to expect buying the GTX 1080 version and my good experience lead me to get another Asus. By now, there are plenty of review's out there for 1080's, so I will not rehash old info. But I will emphasize that the GTX 1080 is perfect for 1440p gaming. It allows solid frame rates with generally maxed out graphical options. I always OC my cards and this one is rock solid and artifact free at 2050mhz on the core and 11100mhz on the memory . Based on reviews I have read, this appears to be an average result. Compared to my 1070 OC'd to 2075/9100 on average the OC'd 1080 is about 17-25% faster, depending on title. The extra power was enough to cure some notable frame rate dips I experienced in certain games which is why I recommend the 1080 over the 1070 for gaming at 1440p. A Vega 64 will perform similar to a 1080 and are finally priced below $500, but until custom models come out that are not based on the lame blower cooler, I personally would still recommend the 1080 unless you have a Freesync monitor. Cooling is excellent. With a custom fan tune, when heavy gaming it rarely reaches 70C at 60% fan. At 60%, it is barely audible in my setup. I do like the fan acoustics better with the MSI Gaming series, but the Asus is not far off. Power usage when gaming is not bad, even with my 7820X overclocked to 4.7Ghz, 32GB DDR4 3200, water cooling and multiple drives I am only seeing about 380-400 watts being used of total system power according to my RM850i. Overall, the Asus Strix GTX 1080 is a great choice right now. Performs great, runs cool and quiet, has a 3 year warranty, has a back plate, comes with 2 free games (Destiny 2 and Assassins Creed Origins) and is only $509 after rebate which is priced the same as the newly released GTX 1070ti. That is a solid value and recommended if you have $500 to spare.
Pros: Excellent GPU overclocks stable to 2045mhz in my hands. Runs everything I throw at it smoothly. When pushed (GTA 5 ultra settings 4k) gets up to 76C custom fan curve overclocked and at 100% fan speed.
Cons: I thought Aura lighting could be synchronized!? rgb LED is nice but leaks out the side of the backplate something awful. I have the thermaltake core p3 panoramic case so the bleedthrough is kinda good unless my ASUS z170 deluxe is also set to rainbow cycling. They can't be synced as far as I can tell but I hear the software team is working on this which is why I didn't take an egg off.
Overall Review: Download GPU Tweak II from the ASUS website, set to OC mode, then forget. As far as I or anyone can tell the A8G and the OCG versions of this card are the same. Using MSI Kombusterv3.5.2.1 and at GPU Tweak's OC mode (1936mhz): Lakes of Titan v1 X64 3840x2160 AA: off Score 7453 (124fps) Lakes of Titan v1 X64 3840x2160 AA: 2x MSAA Score 4341 (72fps) Lakes of Titan v1 X64 3840x2160 AA: 2x MSAA Score 3516 (58fps) Lakes of Titan v1 X64 3840x2160 AA: 8x MSAA Score 2335 (38fps) If you can find it for a good price, and its in stock, then get it.
Pros: -So fast -Lots of vRAM -RGB -Nice backplate -Fans only turn on when needed -Quiet -Stays cool -Excellent packaging -Great aesthetics overall -Doesn’t sag too bad -Can control 2 more fans so you can hook up case fans that react to GPU temps -So fast
Cons: -RBG lights bleed through the heat sink which is exposed from the side. It’s not bad looking but it’s kind of too much light coming through there relative to the logos -RGB could be better overall. -Can’t opt out of the free game, which Newegg will charge shipping on even though it’s a digital download.
Overall Review: This is the crown jewel of my rig. So much power! I really don’t need a 1080 since I play at 1080p but at the time this was only $709 CAD and the 1070s were $650. I figured I’d spend the extra money and get something that will hopefully be more relevant in 6-7 years. Being unable to opt out of the ‘free’ gift really ticked me off. I tried to cancel that part of the order and all kinds of stuff to try get out of it but I couldn’t find a way. It’s really not free at all. They charge you the full price of the game and then refund it, but they charge for shipping as well. If they’re calling it a free gift then it should be a free gift. The card itself though? Top notch.
Pros: You won't need another video card for a LONG time. This plays any game I throw on it, in ultra, in 3440x1440, without a hiccup. I've yet to experience lag that was caused by these (I have two). Seriously, I feel bad for titan x owners who purchased right before these came out. These things are nuts.
Cons: Price? I guess? But considering the price of a titan x, it's a bargain. Also- these things are LONG. Make sure your case can fit them!
Pros: Runs anything smooth without overclocking. Can't a see a point to spending the money on a Ti when this performs the way it does. I have been OC recently, still doesn't go over 55 C with settings on ultra with OEM NZXT case fans... This card with i7-8700k and 3200 G.skill ram.... almost 0 time response when you execute programs... this thing does gaming easy. Save your money if you're thinking Ti and get this. I could afford it and I have 0 regret.
Cons: Couple months in, no complaints yet. Its a big heavy card might want to consider a method of supporting depending on the orientation of your mobo in your case?
Overall Review: Ran some bench tests on ultra, with heaven benchmark, and with settings on ultra, scored over 3000 and it didn't go over 56/57 degrees. Its a graphics processing beast. Best have some good RAM to pair with this, results are satisfying.
Pros: Fast, it makes all my games look beautiful at 4k on a 70" display. Runs my HTC Vive perfectly.
Cons: This is my one very minor complaint, it would be nice of Asus' Aura software allowed for manually entering an RGB value so it could be more easily matched with other RGB devices.
Overall Review: Picked it up on sale, pretty much all GTX 1080's perform the same, we went for the one with 2 native HDMI ports for our TV and Vive. That was literally the deciding factor.
Pros: Best gtx 1080 in terms of performance, even stronger than evga 1080 ftw edition LED's are bright and noticeable, colors are cool to customize Same clock speeds when overclocking as the OC edition which is crazy
Cons: Overclocking software was a little clunky but works fine Though it is more powerful than evga 1080 ftw, its like 40 dollars more and it's just a LITTLE better than it
Overall Review: Even though its price is not great value you are getting the best gtx1080 on the market hands down and it's the only one in stock! This is probably because it is made by robots and they can make the cards faster and more consistently, it is the only gtx 1080 card that is 100% fully assembled by robots!

Pros: • Runs very quietly under load, without the constant buzzing that often plagues other cards. (The buzzing is caused by the frequency at which the power is converted from one phase to another. Asus used a high frequency for this, and the result is an essentially silent power delivery system.) • The additional cooling capability allows the card to maintain higher clock speeds when under load. I was able to clock my unit up to 2086Mhz on the core, and 11001Mhz on the memory with the maximum temperature under load being 71C. • Branding on the card is kept to a minimum, which makes it fit very nicely in most systems. The RGB lighting is also a plus, and Asus AURA support is also quite nice.
Cons: • The two white LED indicators on the power connectors can be irritating if you’re a perfectionist, however I personally don’t find them to be a problem. • With a length of over 11 inches, this card is admittedly quite long, consequently you will definitely have to double-check to ensure that the card will fit in your system. • Some have said that the length of the card could likely damage your PCI slot over long-term use, however since the card is not entirely supported by the PCI slot, this will depend more on the case you use than the card itself. My NZXT S-340 Elite has a very tight fit for the screw-in bracket on the card, and not only supports the card perfectly, but also removes all sag that some complain of.
Overall Review: Overall, I quite like the overall design of this card, it’s fast, quiet, and well built. I would highly recommend it to someone looking for a good graphics card for their system, provided that they have adequate air-flow to keep the card cool. Below are my system specs, and some average FPS numbers in various games I have tested. • CPU: Intel i7 8700K @3.4 Ghz • GPU: Asus ROG STRIX GTX 1080 @2086 Mhz • RAM: 16Gb G.SKILL TRIDENTZ RGB @3200Mhz • SSD: Samsung 960 EVO 250Gb M.2 (PCI-E) • Motherboard: Asus ROG MAXIMUS X Hero (Wi-Fi AC) • CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i GTX • OS: Windows 10 Home 64-bit • Case: NZXT S-340 Elite The rest is of no consequence for reference purposes.
