Pros: This thing has not made a coaster out of the 7 or so disks I've thrown at it. It's very quiet. I've used both LTH and regular disks and both playback fine in both my ps3 and blu ray player. It looks fantastic as well beside my Asus G73 laptop. This thing burned my Verbatim LTH disks and Sony disks in about 13 minutes using USB 3 connection.
Cons: I can't think of any cons at this time and hoping that none come up down the road. I guess people might be unhappy that I don't believe this burner supports esata. Some may find it expensive. It's much cheaper than the first cd burner I bought.
Overall Review: The only thing I wish was that the blank bdr's would cost less, especially the DL disks. I managed to find 10 DL's which I have on order for TDK's with cases for $85 Cdn. I picked up 50 bd-r's for about the same price for Sony's. There's software galore included and I haven't used any of it and probably won't. I'm using imgburn and that's about all.
Not too bad, Poor designed eject button12/9/2013 3:35:36 AM
Pros: This burner uses USB 3.0. Non needed for burning CDs, but helpful for burning Blu-Rays at higher speeds.
This burner is very quiet. I could hardly tell that it was running.
The bundled software did its job. It comes with software to watch DVDs and Blu-rays and to burn and copy discs.
Cons: The rear power switch, which slides back and forth, is a little hard to slide. Luckily, I don't use optical media daily.
The front eject button is very poorly designed. You have to press it just right for it to open. In my opinion, simpler is better. Get rid of the fancy door and button and put the drive flush with the outside of the enclosure.
Bundled Cyberlink software is not the latest, but a few generations old (Version 10 compared to Version 13). I figured they wouldn't package the latest so that they may get you to upgrade.
The unit would not burn to some Maxell DVD-R discs that I had laying around. It did nothing but return errors. After finding other media laying around, I figure that these discs and this machine weren't made to be together.
Overall Review: I recently bought a new Dell Inspiron 23 All-in-one, which does not have an optical drive. Seeing this one was USB 3.0, and made by Asus, I thought I would give it a try. Hookup was fairly simple. First thing I noticed was the switch was a little hard to slide on and off. Then I noticed that you had to press the eject button just right in order to eject the disc.
The bundled software loaded up and updates were easy to install. The bundled software isn't the latest offered by Cyberlink, but it does its job of play Blu-Ray and DVDs.
My first test at burning didn't go well, and I was ready to return the item. I had some Maxell DVD-R, and neither Adobe Elements nor the Bundled Cyberlink would burn without an immediate error. I then tried Memorex DVD+R Lightscibe media that I had, and no issues burning.
I have yet to try burning to Blu-Ray media, since the videos that I make as a hobby are usually small enough to fit on a AVCHD DVD.
Pros: 6 discs, no coaster yet. Also I figured out how to get it to write at 16x. And since it's burning as it's advertised, there's really no need for a firmware update yet so...
Pros: burns a bd-r in about 35-40 min does its job very well.
Cons: pricy, the drives raised top prevents stacking. it requires a separate power supply at all times even when being plugged into a usb3 slot. the switch cover on the back side of the unit is big and prevents you from turning it on and off manually. (i ended up removing mine) the shiny black plastic picks up dust and scratches are very visible. doesn't come with pull string bag or some way to keep all the cables together
Overall Review: the first thing to think about regarding this device that it is very bulky. its full drive in a case after all. i could have made this a con but likely if you're considering buying this you're not focusing on the size rather the performance. another consideration is that currently there is no 12x blu ray media on the market (6x is the max at the time of this review) so its great that it can go that fast but there are drives that get the job done at 1/3 less the cost. however if you want the biggest most powerful portable burner on the block this is the one to go with.
Pros: USB 3.0 is as fast or faster then SATA--plug and play-- no drivers needed.-.You can use the shortcut to open and close drawer!!! I only put the disk in and take it out---.Use power outlet switch to turn it on an off ,instead of switch on back, or just leave it on all the time---- it looks cool.. On the desktop it is convenient to use --Burned 22 gig in 11 minutes!! Software works if you follow the directions. (install the whole media suite and download the patch)Watched a blue ray movie I just rented with bundled software.-- no problems. If you want to buy better software for this drive ,you can do even more!!!!
Cons: absolutely non...snap it up before its gone!
Overall Review: would you buy a hot rod and complain about putting gas in it or upgrading it?
Pros: Portable. Installed without a hitch on my Surface Pro 2, as is the Cyberlink Software. People complaining about PowerDvd 10 not working clearly are not computer savvy.
Cons: kind of slow to start up, the video went smoothly, but loading between menus, etc isn't the fastest.
Overall Review: Pop the DVD in the drive, open it and click the firmware update link...which should always be the first thing you do if it's that blatantly available. Enter your model number and download the Windows 8 patch for PowerDvd 10...go figure, it works just fine!
Pros: Makes great use of USB 3.0, very fast. Main used for backing up my Blu-Ray disc so I can watch them on the go and works so good now I need a nice external HDD.
Very quiet, happy I went with this instead of a replacement drive for my laptop.
Cons: It is a bit large but I knew that when I ordered it, so can't really complain. Wish the USB cable was a standard cable, in case you want to use a longer one.
Overall Review: Extremely satisfied with the burner and it matches my Asus laptop. I would definitely recommend this product if you are looking for a external Blu-Ray burner.
Pros: So far no coasters . Burns fast , in fact it has burned a DVD at a higher speed than it was rated at . A great looking burner , the stand is a good idea , no room for the burner without the stand. Just wish it had lightscribe like the 12 B1LT
Cons: none
Overall Review: Great burner , looks good , fast burns
