Pros: I have the Maximus X, XI, and XII Apex, and have always wanted an Extreme board, I bought this board to build a water cooled daily driver in a chassis, generally I use open-air wet bench and a chiller.
Cons: The board is vary wide, I new the dimensions before buying but did not measure my chassis cable pass-throughs thinking I had plenty of room with TT A700 TG chassis, but I was wrong and the board covers all the cable pass-throughs. Also the RAM slots are too close to the CPU socket preventing installing 4-dimms if your using Corsair H150i cooler, with cooler block installed as should be with Corsair logo correct the hose connections are into the first memory slot, this was not an issue for me as the H150i was only temp install to load OS, and than custom water cooling was installed with 4 x 8GB memory kit.
Overall Review: I would recommend this board, it's solid. I had no issues installing OS, drivers, everything works and system is 100% stable. System : Intel Core i9-10900K, F4-3600C14Q-32GTZNB, Nvidia RTX 2080Ti FE, Samsung 970 Pro, Seasonic SSR-1000TR, and TT A700 TG chassis & custom water cooling.
Pros: 1- Solid performance while overclocking. 2- Beautiful design & beautiful lighting effects.
Cons: Faced a problem while installing the ram sticks. The motherboard was showing 55 code error. Then I used 16GB (dual channel), and it started to work properly. I managed to use the remaining ram sticks. I'm still not sure if the problem is with my installation process or other thing.
Overall Review: Of Course the motherboard is pricey, but after seeing the performance while overclocking, it deserve every single bucks.
Pros: Never have I ever seen so much stuff packed onto/into a motherboard! 90% of the stuff I don't even touch but it's always nice to know that if I ever need to tweak something...this thing will let you. I've got it paired up with a 10900k processor clocked at 5300MHz. Wow...what a beast. I'm expecting this PC build to last me 5 to 7 years before I upgrade again. This is replacing my old 2013 build that had a 3930K & a Rampage IV EXTREME motherboard. Yeah, I went way overboard with this new build! I'd rather have more than I need than to have less when I need more. I'm still in the market for a new high-end video card to complement this since I'm still using my old one at this time.
Cons: Well, price. This thing is expensive but if you want the most bells & whistles out of a mother board, this one's for you. EDIT: After almost a year, unfortunately, the OLED display is experiencing burn-in.
Overall Review: I've had it about a week now and so far I'm glad I purchased it. Like I said before, the price is high but you get sooo much.
Pros: Top notch build quality, packaging and accessories... you can really tell ASUS cares about the product experience. Big beautiful alloy heatsink over the NVME slots / PCIE lanes. Onboard RGB zone / RGB header compatibility with Corsair iCue. Beautiful OLED display shows you temperature sensor and POST code information. Amazing OC potential with the best UEFI bios of any motherboard manufacturer currently. Comes with an ROG screw driver and keychain strap!
Cons: Like all motherboards these days, the windows software that comes with it is not the greatest, but gets the job done. My last board was Gigabyte and I consider this a massive upgrade on the software side of things. Had to perform a complete reinstall of windows because the HD audio driver was not installing even though I uninstalled the old drivers from my previous board. The RAM slots seem to really want to hold on to your ram sticks, excessive force was needed to pull mine out. Comes with a thunderbolt expansion card that I never used which added to the cost of the complete package.
Overall Review: Best motherboard you can buy for the Z490 series if your case can fit an E-ATX sized board. Be sure to check the list of accessories that come in the box and see if it's worth it for you still. Running my 10900k at 5.1ghz at 1.295v (bios) on a Corsair H115i Platinum AIO.
Pros: It looks pretty!
Cons: EVERYTHING ELSE.
Overall Review: I bought my first edition of this board from Jeff Bezos, had everything installed nicely, started it up and it began my nightmare, "A2" error. Called ASUS tech support and spoke to a wonderful Indian gentleman who informed me that the motherboard must be defective, and they would be happy to RMA it and fix it and give it back or replace it entirely. As I was under Bezos's wonderful warranty program, I replaced it for a new board. I set it up, and, again, the "A2" error on the second board. At this time, I gave it to a local tech shop and they, too, could not figure out WHAT was wrong with the setup. Returned the second board, as well as the CPU, Memory (which is on the QVL), and the M2 (which is also on the QVL). Got entirely different CPU, same memory, same M2. Installed everything a 3rd time. GUESS WHAT? A2 Error. I am beyond frustrated at this point, and this will be the last PC I ever build (after 20+ years of building them, I've had enough). Just got off the phone with another wonderful Indian gentleman who informed me there are no American tech support agents, because I couldn't understand WHAT he was saying 9 times out of 10 -- just what you want to hear when you spend OVER SEVEN HUNDRED EFFIN DOLLARS ON A EFFIN MOTHERBOARD. This is the last ASUS product I ever buy. I can't wait til Corsair starts making high end motherboards and wipes the floor with these losers. Horrible product, horrible experience, NEVER BUY ASUS.
Pros: Bells and whistles. Lot of them. Looks amazing with the on board displays.
Cons: Not for a first build. No easy find to lock CPU at stock speed for diagnostics.
Overall Review: This board is for over clocking. I should have done more research and bought a board geared towards gaming. This board will overclock your CPU out of the gate on basic settings. So as in my case if your game is hyper sensitive to overclocking this can be an issue. Otherwise solid board with every conceivable bell and whistle available. After getting all set up I like the ability to configure the board to display the CPU temp, voltage and Dram voltage along with many others if one so wishes. I gave this board a 4 only because I won't be using everything that came in the box. It is a lot.
Overall Review: Its noooice.
Pros: I can only describe this board as insane. I bought a Maximus XII Hero originally, but the VRMs had excessive coil whine in some use cases. The Extreme has slight coil whine in those use cases, but not nearly as bad.
Cons: The price of this board is equally insane. Motherboards shouldn't cost more than the CPUs. It would be nice if there were more side RGB strip LEDs to make the strip appear more seamless.
Overall Review: If you're looking for a top-tier motherboard, this is it; but, there are much cheaper solutions out there.
