Rampage IV Black Edition

Following in the legacy forged by the Rampage 111 Black Edition, the R4BE - as it is known by ROG fans - is the perfect marriage of gaming and overlocking. Sacrificing nothing to appease both crowds, the Rampage IV Black Edition delivers the ultimate X79 experience.

The Gamer

SupremeFX Black

Pioneered on ROG, SupremeFX has been the standard by which all other audio solutions are compared. Adding an op-amp, DAC, and headphone amp to an already powerful combination of hardware, lets SupremeFX Shielding and ELNA premium audio capacitors take audio performance beyond the limits of the ALC 1150 codec. Meanwhile, a Cirrus Logic CS4398 DAC joins a TPA6120A2 headphone amp to deliver 120dB SNR and 600 load impedance to ensure powerful, immersive sound when gaming on headphones. Lastly, ROG Sonic Radar software helps FPS gamers localize sounds via on-screen radar.

Game faster from start to finish by combining ROG hardware and software. ROG RAMDisk software makes the most of the DIMM design on the Rampage IV Black Edition by creating lightning-fast virtual drives for temporary storage. RAMDisk can also be used for partial caching to automatically store large, slow-loading files like maps into memory.

Intel Gb LAN with GameFirst

The latest Intel 1217 Gb LAN minimizes CPU overhead under high bandwidth utilization, which combined with ROG GameFirst ensures the lowest ping times. For wireless scenarios, the included mPCle Combo combines 802.11ac Wi-Fi/Bluetooth 4.0 and M.2/NGFF slot in one.

The Overclocker

Premium Overclocking Components, Including OC Panel

BlackWing Choke, 90% efficient NexFET MOSFETs and 10K Black Metallic Capacitors lay the groundwork for Extreme Engine Digi+ to provide the highest, most stable overclocking. The bundled OC Panel lets you make the most of these superior components, with two different modes. In Normal Mode, OC Panel installs into an available 5 ¼in. drive bay and displays CPU temperature, ratios, BCLK and fan RPM. Switching to Extreme Mode and utilizing the OC Panel as a handheld device unlocks its enthusiast overclocking functionality. Connectors for Subzero Sense, VGA SMB and VGA hotwire are available directly on the OC Panel, as well as remote power and reset buttons.

New UEFI with SSD Secure Erase

The new black-themed Rampage IV Black Edition UEFI provides significant upgrades to both EZ and Advanced modes, as well as SSD Secure Erase to completely wipe repurposed drives and restore factory write speeds. For faster setup, EZ mode now includes date/time, fan profiles and XMP memory profiles. In Advanced Mode, both individual settings as well as submenus can now quickly be accessed by placing them into the My Favorites tab or the Shortcuts menu. Lastly, changes to the UEFI can easily be tracked by looking in the Last Modified Log or by leaving notes using the new Quick Note function.

Great while it lasted in it's 3 years... 11/12/2018 1:55:26 PM

Pros: -SATA Ports to spare and used every single one of them.
-SATA RAID 5 on 3x 3TB Seagates worked very well and did so until the whole mobo died.

Cons: -Really hard to get a bootable RAID 0 drive up and running w/ Windows 7 (impossible on 10).

Overall Review: Motherboard just died today. A component on the left side of the top left EPS 12V 4pin socket burned out and now when you turn it on it tries to cycles power every 3 seconds. Still lights up the motherboard when just plugged in. Tried a new power supply but did the same thing. Really thought it would have lasted at least 5 years as this is my second Rampage IV with the first being the normal variant from 2012 to 2015. Hmm...seems like these boards only last 3 years...just past any warranty...figures...last time I'll buy a high end Asus Mobo. Also bought an ITX Impact IV and similiar component burned out in the back of it lasted 2014-2017. Three stars one for each year it lived and I think that's being generous.

Manufacturer Response:
Dear Michael R,

Thank you for the feedback and making us aware of your experience. I’m sorry to hear about your unfortunate experience, and please accept our apologies for the inconvenience. ASUS integrates long-lasting, premium components, plus exclusive smart DIY designs across the board — ensuring the best gaming experiences. Try taking the motherboard out of the case and set it on an insulated surface. Install JUST the CPU/cooler, and 1 stick of memory in the first slot. Plug in the 2 PSU cables to the MB. Connect the ketboard, and connect the monitor to the integrated video if it has it. Turn on the PSU. Momentarily short the 2 pins that the case's power button wires would connect to for starting. (You can also drag the case close enough to use the button's wires if you wish). Should you need further assistance with the product. You can reach me at

Thank you for choosing ASUS!

Awesome motherboard, TERRIBLE WARRANTY SERVICE! One EGG for the BAD warranty service 7/26/2016 9:17:15 AM

Pros: This motherboard was fantastic! All the tweaks and being able to overclock an i7-4820 make this one of the best motherboards I've ever had. I've been an ASUS fan for 2 decades and this WAS the best motherboard to date until 9 weeks ago when the board would just shut down while using it. I sent it in for RMA service 3 times. So far warranty service from ASUS SUCKS! See below.

Cons: The motherboard worked great for 2 years, then 9 weeks ago, POW! it just starts shutting down and trying to reboot. Looked this up online and found other owners having similar issues. This motherboard was almost $600, and the best board ASUS put out. The warranty service for this motherboard is the WORST I've EVER EXPERIENCED. For being ASUS' best motherboard, they have given me the worst service. I sent lists showing how the motherboard was setup, i.e.. components, and what I did prior to getting an RMA. I sent it in and 3 WEEKS LATER RECEIVED IT BACK. I hooked it up and found they did not fix it. I called to see what they did for a repair. They said they cleared the CMOS. I had told them I had already done that and it didn't work. DANG! Now another RMA and sent it back. 3 weeks later, it's listed as done and ready to send back to customer. So I call and talk to a support rep and ask what was done. He does not want to tell me anymore than it's fixed. I told him don't send it back unless to can tell me what was done. Now I'm on hold. He come back on the phone and says they reflashed the BIOS and adjusted some components. I told him I had already reflashed the BIOS and it did not fix anything. I asked what version BIOS, he would not answer. I asked what components were adjusted, and how they can adjust electrical components. When I pressed for an answer, he would not go any further with the conversation. He said they are shipping the board back to me.
I said if it still doesn't work, that means it will be down for another 3 weeks for another RMA return. He said well then ask for a replacement next time then!!!!! That was the end of the conversation. $140 in shipping costs to them and 2 1/2 months later, I'm still waiting for a resolution to this problem. ASUS' motherboards used to be top tier, now it looks like they want top dollar for bottom tier products and warranty. Think twice about paying $500+ for an ASUS product, because if it needs warranty service, you might be stuck with a $500+ worth of junk!!!!!!!!!!

Overall Review: Be careful buying ASUS products, especially the high dollar stuff. The warranty service if needed is REALLY BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Excellent MB full of features (5 eggs) Ubisoft on the other hand SUCK (0 eggs)! 2/17/2016 3:24:56 PM

Pros: -Full of options (both software in bios settings)
-Enough ports/sockets for for any combination of video cards, sound cards, etc
-Supports full line-up for memory dimm speeds
-Post display on top of MB/easier to see

Cons: -Ubisoft unwilling to correct their website to redeem free game code (website has been down long before the promo was over!) and kept telling me to contact Newegg/Asus to get a new game code even though it was their website that was the issue.

Overall Review: This is the second time that I bought items that had games included that I couldnt redeem or didnt receive when I bought the item. Why include promos like this and then renig on them?

Whoa! 1/14/2016 9:36:03 PM

Pros: Quite a board! The BIOS rocked me back. There is SOOO much you can do with this board. I almost bought the newest version with the X99 chipset and I'm glad I didn't. With the problems they are having with that chipset, I'm happy here. The monitor only needs to sit outside the case for extreme OC'ing, which you can do from the BIOS anyway, so I was pleased it folds down and fits in a DVD bay with controls you can easily use to tweak things.

Cons: The board was supposed to come with an Assassin's Credd game code. No dice. Also, I think they discontinued this board for a newer, and unstable, chipset.

Overall Review: Naturally, this came with Newegg's fast shipping.

Junk 1/6/2016 1:45:27 PM

Pros: None

Cons: Everything

Overall Review: This board is complete junk. The right Chanel on the built in audio is distorted and 10db quieter than the left. Filed an RMA and the replacement they sent me was in a box that was too small for the motherboard so it was bent before I even opened it. Still waiting for them to send me a third board, 2 months later... ASUS support says one thing then does another. Just sat on "hold" for 15 minutes. dude just set the phone down and never came back. I could hear him and other people talking in the background. Worst support EVER. Never buying another ASUS anything.

So they took 2 weeks to "reapir" the bent board I sent them back. All they did was stick it in a bigger box. Its still bent. This is by far the WORST customer service I have ever had to deal with. What part of the PCB is bent do you not understand. The product details dont list "edges of the motherboard will be bent up because we employ people who lack fine motor skills".

Great motherboard but the Game Code is no longer valid! 1/6/2016 9:38:48 AM

Pros: This is the best X79 motherboard that you can get. It has more features that you can ever use. I am not a heavy OC so I just set the multiplier to 43, RAM to XMP and call it day. It has run solidly since the build. It looks really nice. Great spacing if you plan to run 2-way SLI or Crossfire. 2-way is the proper way to go. The rating is 4.5 out 5 but Newegg does not allow half egg increment.

Cons: I want to get another one but it is currently out of stock. The game code is only valid until March 2015 (minus 0.5 eggs). However, if Newegg continues to stock and sell this motherboard, those of us that bought it after that date should be able to get a game code. It is easy to do - ASUS can provide a link to us, and requires anyone to provide a proof of purchase/invoice (dated after March 2015) to submit a copy, and then email us a valid game code to download the game. It is a bit of work but ASUS, we paid top dollars for this board. This will really enhance your PR and solidify your reputation. Plus there are not that many people that bought this board so the work should be minimal.

Overall Review: My build -
This board
G Skill 64GB DDR3 at 2133MHz
Samsung EVO 850 500GB
EVGA GTX 980 (probably will get another 1 for SLI)
Corsair 750D
Windows 7 Ultimate

Not as advertised 12/15/2015 7:10:41 PM

Pros: Good quality MOBO like ASUS accustomed his customers. Not quite the type of mother board for the average consumer willing to build his own PC.

Cons: I bought the MOBO from Newegg due to the fact that it was advertised that it will come together with a code for a free copy of Assassins Creed IV Black Flag. I tried to use the code from the card attached to the User Guide but it was rejected. Reading the fine print I realized that in fact the code was valid up to March 1st 2015 !?

Overall Review: I am a long time Newegg customer. It is really disappointing to see that they are acting this way to bust there sails.
