Thank you for choosing ASUS!

Great looking board, comes with some fatal flaws 9/13/2018 10:13:21 AM

Pros: The board itself is very appealing, the RBG lighting, the slick black PCB design and everything.

For the most part it lives up to what ASUS puts out. I myself have been able to push so4me pretty good overclocks on my i7-6900k and not have it explode.

UEFI setup is nice and the overall aesthetic inside and out is great.

Cons: This board does have some pretty weird issues:
Board will boot loop with error code 6F whenever a loss of power has occurred. So far my only way of fixing this is by forcing myself into the UEFI by removing the boot drive.

- I lost Ram slot 2A after just 6 months of use. Leaving me with 24/32 gb of Ram. Not a huge issue, but considering I use this as a graphic arts work station I would prefer the full 32gb I paid for.

- Motherboard RGB's stay on even when the computer is off. Again not really a make or break but it's just annoying that I have to sleep with this perpetual nightlight running.

Overall Review: My opinion is to avoid this board. Yes it might look appealing but it's pretty much a disaster waiting to happen. For the $400 you pay for the board and the added cash for an X99 CPU, the added issues are just not worth it in my opinion.

Manufacturer Response:
Dear Riley S,

Thank you for taking the time to write this informative review. I’m sorry to hear about your motherboard issue, and please accept our apologies for the inconvenience. All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and inspections, this is a random problem. ASUS provides warranty coverage in order to fix or repair any product that may stop working prematurely under normal usage. For improved system stability proceed to update your BIOS to version 1902. You can find the BIOS .cap file located on our Online ASUS Help Desk, followed by clearing your CMOS. You can change RGB settings in BIOS to have RGB set off when your computer is turned off, look for Aura settings. If you need help with any technical questions or general inquiries you can reach me at cl-adrian@asus.com.

Thank you for choosing ASUS!

Best Regards,
Adrian

PIECE OF JUNK! 7/22/2018 10:24:18 AM

Pros: -None

Cons: Error 6F after a couple of months. All motherboard RAM slots stopped worked except one...

Latest update to boot. Do not by this scrap. In addition to that, it has atrocious motherboard lighting features. "Sleep" mode still has most of the lights on. Couldn't RMA because they had "non-in-stock" so I had to send it in.

Customer service is as bad as the board.

Manufacturer Response:
Dear Yakov I,

Thank you for the feedback and making us aware of your experience. I’m sorry to hear about your memory issue, and please accept our apologies for the inconvenience. Try clearing your CMOS, and reseating your CPU and RAMs. When you mentioned Latest update did you mean BIOS or drivers? To avoid errors with your memory channel, make sure to use Qualified RAM that has been verified on ASUS QVL. To disable your LEDs when in sleep mode try getting into your BIOS, and enable ErP (S5) status and save. After restarting, return to BIOS and re-enable ROG LED options with your preferred color scheme/effect. save and exit. If any issues arise with the functionality of your motherboard, you can contact me at cl-adrian@asus.com.

Thank you for choosing ASUS!

Horrible product!! stay away for real! 6/16/2018 9:17:57 PM

Pros: Looks nice, love the RGB

Cons: I had this board for a month and just like a bunch of reviews here, this motherboard suddenly died on me while watching Netflix!!... Tried to turn it on and this MB was not responding at all. It is the most fustrating and stressful experience you could have. Asus has disappointed me this time. I do not even know why they keep selling this board. I bought another MB by Gygabyte. I am just hoping the Strix x99 didn't kill my CPU (i75930i) as a lot of people here are saying that it also burns your CPU because that's an expensive processor and my head will explode. Stay away for your own good.

High-End Performance with mid-range price. 100% satisfied no issues whatsoever 3/29/2018 5:51:14 PM

Pros: Got this motherboard back in 2016 as I was looking for a beast motherboard and home for my 6950x. It's been 2 quick years and I've had nothing but great experiences with this motherboard. Gaming/Editing/Streaming/Work you name it this does it. All RAM/PCIe slots are working great with everything detected XMP with no issues whatsoever. I wanted to get the Rampage V Edition 10 but due to the EATX size it wouldn't fit my case.

Lo and behold the first ever Strix branded motherboard ROG Strix X99 Gaming. I have been reading all these negative reviews and I'm glad to say none of the issues that plagued others happened for me. I believe many of the reasons others are having issues with are user error and not hardware related. Although the motherboard has RGB's, I prefer them off in which you can do in BIOS as I was going for the minimalist look. The black PCB is sexy and will match most builds. Make sure to update your motherboard firmware as it is recommended for improved power delivery and optimized microcode for your CPU.

Cons: - Wi-Fi could be better
- No ROG Armour

Dear Valued Customer,

We appreciate your bringing this issue into our attention and it's unfortunate to hear about the issues that have transpired. Did you have any overclocks applied to your system? What are your system specifications? Please provide us with further details to your PC configuration and BIOS. For optimal overclocking performance, be sure flash to the latest BIOS 1801 for latest CPU microcode and be sure to have adequate cooling for your CPU to increase the voltage/temperature threshold. What JUNK! Why can't it just flippin WORK!? 2/3/2018 10:34:58 PM

Pros: LEDs, all black PCB, lots of fan headers

Cons: USB problems out the *** on this one.

Overall Review: Let me start by saying that I have owned this board for a little more than 5 months as of this review. I have done several clean installs of windows and different versions of drivers on a Samsung 960 Pro 512GB M.2, Intel 5930K CPU, 64GB of Corsair Vengance LPX DDR4 2133 RAM and WD Black mech drives.

These issues infuriate me!! My issues 95% happen only on this board. I have 2 Logitech C920 webcams that I used on another X99 system, at the same time, with no issues. When I plug them into this board, no matter which 2 USB ports I use, no matter what I do with drivers and software, I cannot get both, or get one of them to work. I plug one or both of them into another system, instantly installs and they just work, no Logitech drivers or software. I also use Corsair Sabre RGB mice and Strafe RGB keyboards. Nearly every time this system boots, no matter what state it boots from, I have to unplug and replug in the mouse to get it to work in Windows, not so much for the keyboard. I have multiple of these devices and they ALL do it, despite multiple RMAs of the Corsair mice, this issue plagues me.

Normally I flock to ASUS for products since its mostly what I have used for nearly every single computer I've built since 1996. I have to say, stay the **** away from this board. It feels like ASUS has gotten sloppy with their driver page of their site as well. I really wanted this board to work well since it is aesthetically pleasing to me. I like all-black PCBs since they are basically universal to 90% of color themed builds. I have to dump this board and look at other brands now since I refuse to pay 500 bucks just for an all black mobo.
