If the drive doesn't come with a heatsink, use the motherboard's. If it comes with a heatsink, you'll want to use whichever heatsink is better - usually the one with more mass.

I have 3 M.2 drives installed; It supports up to 4 but I left 2.2 open because M 2.2 would decrease lanes on the GPU.
