I have 2 Z77 and 2 Z97  machines, all with static boot hard drives . 3 have 16 GB and one Z77 has 8GB.All are running 3- 4 monitors for non graphic business use. We never have a problem with RAM. If you spend this much money for a product and a build,  I think there is no excuse to use less than 8GB.   I do like the Z97 better and it works well for 3 monitors using the on board video. ==

For non gamers, and non graphic  video use 8 GB probably ok.. But what the heck with 16GB all of your options covered!

Why did you pick this board instead of the z97 Sabertooth?

Hi,

I'm a music producer and plan on building a system that's compatible to dual boot both Windows and Mac running SSD's so I chose the Deluxe Board because it offered the most features and flexibility to be able to cover all bases and also offer the possibility for upgrading in the future.

Here's the list of some of the major deciding factors that the Deluxe had over the sabre tooth mobo:

- 2 Sata Express ports for when sata express ssd's become available
- m.2 connector offers an additional port to add an SSD w/o utilizing a Sata III port which leaves more room for expanding and adding other components.
- Enhanced audio capacitors to deliver the cleanest sounding audio for when I'm working on music.
- Wifi and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity.
- Most of the internal components (LAN card, Audio Chipset etc) have been tested and confirmed working on other Hackintosh models.

Aside from that the Sabre tooth has pretty much the same funcitonality. The Sabretooth is mainly designed to offer better heat dissipation for longevity and to prevent overheating however I'm going to be running liquid cooling anyways on my system so I didn't particularly need the board to offer it as well (Even though it wouldnt hurt).

What barebone case works for ASUS Z97-Deluxe Intel Z97 Motherboard?

I used the Cooler Master N600 mid tower case.  It was big enough for my application and has lots areas to add additional fans.  A main concern for this motherboard is to choose your CPU cooler carefully.  If you use the stock Intel fan you"ll have no problems, however if you use another type,  check its dimensions carefully before you order.  Hindsight being 20/20 I wish I would have installed a liquid cooler with radiator.

Can this motherboard fit and support the intel i7 extreme edition ivy? LGA 2011

When I bought my MB I used the CPU support list and ordered a 4 Gen I7 4770 which folks overclock and get big gains in performance.  So far that has worked well.  3rd Gen i7 are not listed in the supported CPU list.  You can find that at ASUS support site for the Z97 Deluxe.   Since that is not listed I would suggest you check directly with ASUS tech support.

Whats better the PRO or the DELUXE?

Hi Anton,
My understanding is that they are very similar in function.  As explained by Asus's rep., JJ , some of the differences have to do with the construction & grade of the components (capacitors, heat sinks, etc.) themselves.  Much of the function, though, is indeed similar.  I found JJ's videos to be very informative, and he has two videos that address those two particular models.  I can't post the links here, but they are easily found ;).  BTW-  I could not be happier with my Deluxe; it is functioning beyond expectations.  The UEFI interface is great.  Make sure, though, that you ensure compatibility with your CPU before installing each.  In my case, Asus's compatibility page indicated that the bios that had shipped with my board (there's a small sticker indicating the version no. on the USB module) was *not* compatible with my CPU (i7-4790k, newly released in July).  Therefore, I had to dl the latest bios and flash update the board bios with a thumb drive before installing *anything*.  In fact, Asus provides a great mechanism for this process whereby you can update the bios without the CPU, ram..., anything at all installed.  Simply plug it into the power supply and plug the flash drive containing the updated bios into the *designated* USB port on the back of the mobo.  Important:  Make *sure* that you rename the bios file to the name indicated in either the update executable or the manual **before** doing so.  Hope this helps.

Im new to gaming computers I bought my first one already asembled.  Im looking to replace the motherboard and processor.  I have basic understanding IE unscrew etc.  But Do I have to reinstall windows and loose all my programs and data?

I dont remember if I have another windows copy I have a windows id thing on the side of my case though.

Can I just replace the Motherboard and processor connect everything and be ok? if not any suggestions where I can go for instructions.

If the original window came on the hard-drive as an image which expanded upon first powering up.  You would have used the code on the windows tag when the program asked for it.
But now your registry is filled with information from you last motherboard.  It is not likely to work.  I work in the registry files a lot but I don’t know if I could fix it all.  
I am sorry but your license will only work on certain software versions and time spans when it was issued.  You are not likely to find a windows DVD version that will work.  If you had a windows DVD and loaded the original software yourself you could reuse the DVD and license.   
It looks like a new Windows DVD is needed and there after you could rebuild from scratch.

i have the Cooler master V8 gts fan & heatsink , I would to know would this fit this mb ?

I am not sure cause I don't have the V8 but the heat sinks on the boards look far enough that they shouldn't interfere with your heating but memory might be a  issue.  Seems on the deluxe the memory DIMMs are set a decent distance from the socket so unless you run memory with some crazy heat spreaders especially on the 1st DIMMs you should be okay. I went with all low profile G. Skills!

Is there a real difference when it comes to having two ethernet ports compared to one? Because I am also considering the PRO as well.

It all depends on just how much data you intend to move across your network.  If you want a motherboard primarily for gaming or general day-to-day use, then a second NIC is not going to make a difference.  Those uses do not push the performance boundaries of a single gigabit Ethernet interface, much less two of them.

To take advantage of 2 Ethernet adapters, you also have to team them, requiring somewhat advanced knowledge of networking.  Lastly, your router / switch device must also be capable of handling teamed NIC's, and many of them just aren't "smart" enough.

A lot of higher-end motherboards come with 2 (or more) NIC's these days.   I would not base my decision on a motherboard on the presence or absence of a 2nd NIC.  There are far more important other factors to consider.
