Good looking image, questionable build quality 1/16/2020 2:33:49 PM

Pros: Nice image, 100 Hz refresh rate, no apparent dead pixels.

Cons: 1. When setting up the monitor, my external speakers would no longer operate when connected to my PC, although I hadn't changed anything there. The monitor's internal speakers sound predictably bad. When I connected to the green jack in the monitor itself, nothing. Within an hour of opening the box I was on a chat with Acer support. Spent half an hour to find out that Acer deviated from the color standard for Line Out color coding, and my green plug had to be plugged into the blue jack. The labels on the two jacks are indistinguishable to me, being molded black plastic and tiny.

2. Every time the monitor awakes from a "sleep" condition, speakers plugged directly into it emit a loud, raspy "pop". This has never happened with another monitor on the same PC. I've plugged the speakers into the PC's green Line Out jack and set it up to default there. Problem solved, but an annoyance.

3. As mentioned in other reviews, the stand places the monitor higher than I'm accustomed to, even at its lowest position. The bottom margin of the viewing area is 7" above the desk surface, the upper margin 20". More flexibility would be welcome. I'm 6'1", so can adapt, and it might even help my posture. But shorter users might find they spend an unnatural amount of time looking up at their image.

4. I contacted support to ask about the Acer logo being very noticeably crooked on the lower bezel just above the power light. The monitor came out of the box that way, and I asked whether they had an applique I could put over it. (OCD on my part? Maybe so, but this thing is staring at me 8-10 hours/day.) Acer's response: "Juan O.: Unfortunately this is consider cosmetic damage that does not affect the functionality of the computer." My response to that: "I also consider it a sign of poor quality control. In my company, our name isn't sent out looking haphazard." I'll find something to stick over the name so it doesn't taunt me. Maybe I can find a nice Alienware sticker.

Combined, these things undermine my confidence in the build quality and QA of Acer's monitors. This is my first, and depending on how it performs over the long haul, is likely to be my last.

Overall Review: If I had it to do over, I'd probably spend more on a monitor with similar specs from a different manufacturer.

If this experience is common, I wouldn't recommend Acer to a friend or colleague.

Good picture but flaky setup about drove me insane. 1/14/2020 12:02:41 PM

Overall Review: In short, you get what you pay for.

I bought this because it was a cost-effective way to get into the ultra-wide curved monitor game. This monitor sports a decent picture and refresh rate, but getting it to work was hell. I tried every connection imaginable. HDMI? no 3440x1440 and no higher than 60Hz. Full size DisplayPort? Not recognized. DVI? Not recognized. Mini DisplayPort to HDMI? No 3440x1440 and only 60Hz.

I was about to return it as defective because I thought the ports weren’t operational. I literally had the return label ready to print and said what the hell, let’s try Mini DisplayPort to full DisplayPort. BOOM! Full 3440x1440 at 100Hz.

That’s great, and I’m keeping the monitor, but I’ve got to wonder: what will happen when I upgrade my computer. For example, to a USB-C only machine. The monitor may turn into worthless junk.

So I can’t recommend this. In fact, I’d stay away. Pay the extra few hundred $$ for a higher quality piece of hardware.

Oh, and Acer has apparently stopped actively supporting the monitor because there’s no Win10 driver. Again, beware. Consider yourself warned

Manufacturer Response:
Dear Tom,
We are sorry to hear you are unhappy with your Acer ED series monitor. Acer does support this monitor; the native plug and play monitor driver that is resident to Windows is what is recommended for this monitor. While we are happy to hear you were able to get the connections to work, we would be happy to help you with any other questions you may have regarding future use. Good value buy for ultrawide 12/21/2019 8:00:10 AM

Pros: -- Relatively inexpensive for ultrawide.
-- 100hz refresh rate, on more powerful rigs this higher refresh is good.
-- Has speakers but that's all you really need to know lol.
-- Multiple display options.
-- Colors and viewing angles decent for a VA

Cons: -- Rare, but momentary flicker. sometimes seems to flicker in low light situations but it's momentary and often times not really noticeable.
-- Features like picture in picture would have been nice
-- OSD is okay, RGB settings allow for some very fine tuning, other display settings are a bit minimal though.

Overall Review: Overall a decent money for an ultawide if you are looking to spend atleast a few hundred dollars. There are nicer displays you can if you want the most superior viewing experience with IPS displays, but the VA display still looks very good and is much better than a TN/.

Good Color and Resolution but VA panel ghosting 12/11/2019 12:05:17 AM

Pros: High res/ref
Cost compared to others
21:9 Ultra Wide
Crisp AF

Cons: Ghosting is most noticeable when scrolling with black or white text/video like on youtube

Overall Review: Not a bad monitor for the money, get it on sale though. If you want something better or the best you need to fork over the cash for OLED/IPS

Decent Monitor 12/5/2019 5:36:53 PM

Pros: - Price
- 34"
- 1440p
- 100hz
- 4ms
- 1800R Curved

Cons: 3 stars due to the excessive Inverse Ghosting in dark transitions.

Overall Review: 3 stars due to the excessive Inverse Ghosting in dark transitions. The pixel response times can't keep up in dark transitions and it causes some really weird artifacts. From what I hear it's an issue with all VA panels. I'd recommend getting a IPS panel ultrawide if you're looking to game on it.

I sold this panel and replaced it with the "lg 34gk950f-b" It's a Nano IPS Panel at 3440x1440 resolution, 144hz native, 1ms mbr.

The only cheaper alternative i'd go with is the "Alienware AW3418DW"

Hope this helps someone.

Great picture but malfunctions constantly DO NOT BUY unless you are just using it for office type work 11/13/2019 7:02:41 AM

Pros: Display looks good
inputs selection is nice
VESA connector

Cons: loses signal when gaming and goes black for several seconds. Sometimes I have to replug the HDMI cable to get the picture back.

Overall Review: I would not recommend buying this monitor if you plan on gaming with it dues to the issues Im having. Newest drivers are dated 2017 and for Windows 8.

Great Ultrawide Screen for The Price! 11/2/2019 7:05:01 PM

Pros: - This screen has good color accuracy, though I am not an expert.
- Contrast is good with inky blacks, brights could be better though.
- 100hz is great and it's very noticeable when you're coming from a 60hz refresh rate screen.
- It's good that it comes with speakers, not the best sounding, but most screens at this price point do not even have that available.
- The stand is a flat base that is sturdy and unobstructive.
- Brightness is pretty good, never felt like I needed it brighter.
- Great screen pivot, swivel, raise and lower control.

Cons: - No HDR support
- I experienced some minor flicker, but only on loading screens or menu screens
- No USB C
- Some minor backlight bleed
- Blue light under the front logo turns on when the screen is on, but after a while, you forget it's even there.

Overall Review: I take my time researching purchases like these, and I can say confidently that out of my findings, and hours digging into the few reviews, no other monitor comes this good at the price it offers. I was comparing it to MSI and ViewSonics's versions of this 34in screen, as well as off brands like Viotek, Massdrop, but Acer ED7 offers the best bang for your buck. I am coming from a 60hz 1080p screen and this is just amazing for my personal productivity, designing, and gaming needs. To top it off, Acer's 3-year screen support was also the cherry on top for me. This is my first ultrawide and I am very impressed by it. Games look amazing and the ultrawideness gives me some peripheral vision advantage in competitive games but also a greater sense of immersion. This screen is also apparently overclockable but I have not done so personally in order to preserve my screen's lifetime. If you're looking for a budget 34in monitor with freesync support that is reliable and comes from a reliable brand, and with good image quality, this is the one. Just make sure you have the good GPU to make use of that 1440p 100hz screen.
p.s. I am running a dual fanned Powercolor Red Dragon RX 5700 XT.
